Expert Analysis
Shane Garcia | Prep Hoops Scout
Gray is stepping into the focal point of the offense role, and it fits him well. He is becoming more efficient with his moves and buckets. He does not dribble as much but scores even more. His big and physical build is a tough guard that most can not match up with. The game is slowing down for him. He has a good touch around the rim. His confidence and comfort level with the game are at a high level right now.

Gray was getting buckets this morning. He was unstoppable and it felt like he scored every point for his squad in the first half. He was aggressive from the tip. He did his damage around the rim early. I like what he showed by not settling for anything because he could overpower the other team. He did just that most of the game. He started knocking down shots as well and this shows his real versatility as a big guard. He was confident and in control.

Gray is a nice scorer. Plain and simple this kid gets buckets. He is a big, bodied guard who can get to the rim whenever he wants. He is a physical driver that when he is even with you it’s over. He bumps into you to give him space to finish, or you end up fouling him. He had multiple drives to the rim and tough finishes for Africentric. He is going to be a big-time returner player for them next year.

Another prospect with Division I football offers, Gray’s future lies on the gridiron. Despite this, I’ve been impressed with his progression on the hardwood as an athletic forward who can play above the rim, rebound and flash cut to the paint. A solid complimentary piece on a Columbus Africentric squad that fell short in the city league championship, the Nubians will have the chance to make a run in a loaded central Ohio Division V district. If they make a run, I expect Gray will need to be playing his best basketball as his physicality is something that could turn the tides of what should be some intense battles.

Gray played his tail off today. He played with such toughness and a high motor for the entirety of the game. He was shown giving multiple efforts on a lot of possessions. He played much bigger than he is. He is a strong guard, but he was seen being a presence in the post today. He was physically in pain when rebounding and attacking the rim. Used his body well to help him finish.

Columbus Africentric had a busy 18 hour stretch where the Nubians went on the road and had a strong comeback against Columbus City League south rival Walnut Ridge and then turned around and got a 20 point win over Thomas Worthington. While there were a couple standouts to choose from, I went with Gray Jr who was productive from the opening tip. A football athlete who is physical and athletic, it’s tough to stop Gray Jr from crashing the offensive glass and finishing at the rim. Gray Jr also moves well for his size, able to run out in transition and score. He even knocked down a couple time and space 3-pointers, showing some offensive versatility. Gray Jr is definitely one of the top dual sport athletes in central Ohio’s 2026 class.
