We are just a week away from the beginning of the 115th Annual IHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament. On Sunday evening we received brackets for the Sectional round as 403 teams learned how their path to Gainbridge Fieldhouse would begin. We will spend the week here at Prep Hoops Indiana going in-depth across the state touching on all 64 Sectionals. Let's take a look at the eight Sectionals that make up the Class 2A North.

Toughest Sectional

I think when looking at the north part of the Class 2A Sectional, the toughest one has to be Sectional 39 at Frankfort. Realistically, you are looking at legitimately 5 out of the 6 teams in that sectional that could come out as the winner. 3 of the contenders in Sectional 39 make up the top half of the bracket with Taylor and Tipton kicking things off where the winner will be facing Sheridan in the semifinals. The other contender in this group, Lapel, drew a bye and will likely be facing host Frankton on Friday as well. Tipton is the team with the best player in this Sectional in Grace signee [player_tooltip player_id='1297029' first='Grady' last='Carpenter'] so they have the advantage there but Lapel, who is 17-5 overall, has proven they can beat Sectional 39 rivals with their wins over Frankton, Tipton, and Taylor. The top half of the brackets is on the heavier size, but there is still great balance in Sectional 39. Regardless of who wins this one, they are going to earn it.

Under-the-Radar Sectional

There were certainly a few Sectionals that could have fallen into this category but when we narrowed it down, we decided to go with Sectional 34 at Jimtown. Knox and Career Academy to the side, this is another strongly balanced grouping with 4 teams that could come out of this including LaVille, Winamac, Bremen, and host Jimtown. The Jimmies have been the more impressive team in this group being 4-0 against Sectional 34 teams that they have played in the regular season. Jimtown does have a tough one to start with LaVille however the winner of that one should take care of Knox in the semifinals. On the other side, you should see Bremen and Winamac go at it semifinals on Friday. Any of the 2 out of the 4 teams we have listed as contenders will be in for a battle on Saturday. Jimtown is the favorite, but do not be shocked if any of Bremen, LaVille, or Winamac come out of this one and move onto Regionals.
