On Thursday, February 13th I watched the match-up of #13 in 5A Verrado hosting #5 ranked in 5A Mountain Pointe.

Mountain Pointe won it convincingly 66-62 in a very good game from start to finish. The Pride hit some timely shots and got some stops when they needed it the most. Freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='2466075' first='Jayvein' last='Moody'] had himself a breakout game with 23+ points. [player_tooltip player_id='1323295' first='Brayden' last='Barrett'] paced Verrado with 20+ points.

Mountain Pointe combination of seniors and talented youth is clicking now. They have won 8 of their last 9 games and are a legit threat for 5A and will start in the OPEN.

Verrado will be in the 5A playoffs around #13 or so and most likely will be on the road in round 1. Their transfers mixed in with their former players has them finishing a strong 6-2 in the last 8 games.

Here were the standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='2466075' first='Jayvein' last='Moody'] Mountain Pointe (Pictured)

A scoring combo guard had a breakout night. He poured in 23 points from all levels. He had his deep three point shot working with real range off the catch and off the dribble. He is very elusive to get some separation from his defenders to get his shot off. He can pull-up from mid and score in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id='2134290' first='Mark' last='Wiltshire Jr'] Mountain Pointe

Another good showing was from their long wing forward Wiltshire. He is a fluid mover and scores with hook shots in the lane, floaters, runners and runs the floor for buckets. He will steal the ball and go coast to coast for a dunk. He will defend from inside and out with his length and size. He scored close to 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956218' first='Marcus' last='Isaac'] Mountain Pointe

The long and tall freshmen power forward is a defensive force inside to rebound and block or alter shots. He scores with mid-range pull-ups, put backs and layups around the basket. He is just scratching the surface in how good he can be.

[player_tooltip player_id='1351130' first='Amous' last='Price'] Mointain Pointe

A tough two-way guard is one of the teams glue players. He is tough on the ball defensively and gets the 50/50 balls. He will score getting downhill to the basket or on the break for layups.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194806' first='Zen' last='London'] Mountain Pointe

One of the top defensive guards in the freshmen class is another that does a lot of the little things. He is a top of the line on-ball defender making it difficult to score on him with his quick feet and hands. He is also a very good passer and will score getting to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194481' first='Justin' last='Kimbrough'] Mountain Pointe

The diminutive pure point guard is a true spark plug off the bench. The second he gets in the game, the pace quickens. The ball is on a string for him and he has next level speed. He will pick a pocket and then off to the races where he usually finds a teammate in stride for the dime.

[player_tooltip player_id='2774988' first='Treydon' last='Ross'] Verrado

A newcomer for me is a skilled power forward that can face-up with some athleticism and fluidity. He can dribble drive baseline to score, hit the three off the catch and score it inside using his size. He will make a play for a teammate plus rebound and block shots in his area. He scored 10+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1323295' first='Brayden' last='Barrett'] Verrado

The top performer for the Vipers was Barrett. He scored 20+ points from all levels on the court. He will post you up, dribble operate to create his own offense with advance inside footwork plus counter moves around the basket. He has deep three point range and will find a teammate for an assist.

[player_tooltip player_id='1776604' first='Tristen' last='Rhodes'] Verrado

A highly skilled scoring lead guard who has in the gym range. He will shoot the three from just past the half court line and comes with a quick trigger. He will take a change on defense for his team and moves without the ball to free himself up. He has a sneaky burst to get into the lane and score from the line. He scored 12+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2298910' first='Amari' last='Fletcher'] Verrado

A long athletic wing forward can play and defend multiple positions. He has some vertical pop and can score with cuts to the basket, threes off the catch, using the floater game or cash in at the free throw line. He scored close to 10 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2298905' first='Jorden' last='Etheridge'] Verrado

A pure point guard comes off the bench but handles most of their lead role and heavy ball pressure. He plays starter minutes and is a fierce on-ball defender. He will score with driving layups and actually hit one at the buzzer of the 3rd quarter to close the gap in a tight game.
