Weekly Rankings Update – Dec. 16

In this article:
After a very eventful week of results there was significant shakeup in the rankings in two classes – Class 1A and Class 4A. These are generally two of the easier classes to rank, so seeing so much movement in those classes is a little unusual. Six ranked teams in 4A lost last week and five in 1A lost. Below we detail some of the key movement in each class.
The top five teams in Class 1A held serve last week, led by defending champion North Linn (4-0), who survived a scare against Alburnett to extend their ridiculously long home winning streak. The Lynx are followed by Madrid (5-0), Marquette Catholic (5-0), Remsen, St. Mary’s (3-0), and Woodbine (2-0). There are three newcomers to the rankings this week – #6 ACGC (3-0), #7 St. Edmond, Fort Dodge (3-0), and #8 Hillcrest Academy (5-0). Gladbrook-Reinbeck (2-1) and Holy Trinity Catholic (3-1) each lost to ranked 2A teams and hold onto spots in the rankings this week.
Absolutely nothing changed in Class 2A, with all ten teams winning each game last week, and only three of the games were decided by single digits all week. Class 2A looks like it is loaded this year and should be a fun class to watch all season.
The top nine teams in Class 3A remain the same as well, with MOC-Floyd Valley (3-1) re-joining the rankings at #10 following Solon’s loss.
Class 4A is where things get weird. Following a pair of blowout wins over ranked teams, Cedar Falls (3-0) takes over the top spot in the rankings. In a pair of home games last week, the Tigers beat then-#3 Linn-Mar 61-34, and then-#6 Iowa City West 69-31. Yowza! Kennedy (3-0) has picked up right where they left off last season and jumps to #2 following two more blowout wins. Dowling Catholic (4-0) goes all the way from unranked to #3 in the class following their big upset win over Valley (3-1), who falls to #4. Waukee Northwest (3-1), who lost to Valley on Tuesday, checks in at #5. Valley is still playing without star guard

and is probably still the team to beat in the class, but with the data points that we have to this point, you have to put Dowling ahead of them given the head-to-head win. Muscatine (4-0) is off to their best start in years and checks into the rankings at #9.
