I watched this young man play every facet of the basketball game at a high level during AAU season. Jay lead his team in every statistical category in regard to scoring, rebounding and assisting. These factors have not changed with middle school basketball starting up. During Friday nights game, he once again lead his team in most statistical categories. the improved part of his game I noticed was his vocal leadership. Jay communicates with his teammates on both ends of the court. When the Oaks Academy offense is being ran, he's making sure all his teammates are where they need to be. His leadership and play-making allowed others to be effective against the St. Richards team. Jay excels at handling the ball and getting to the basket. He's also become stronger since I last saw him play. There were a number of times he scored baskets through contact and converted three point play opportunities from the free throw line. He knocks down mid-range shots and finishes in transition. Defensively, he uses his long frame to block shots, play passing lanes and harass the opposition with excellent on-ball defense. He finished the game with (12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks.) Jay is what I call a "jack of all trades" on the basketball court. This young man is destined to prosper at the high school level and beyond. Keep it up Jay!!

Eliott has become stronger since the last time I watched him play AAU ball. This is my second write up of this young man. He's a good floor leader who excels at finding open teammates at the basket or along the perimeter. Most of his pin-point dimes lead to easy scores for other Oaks Academy players. Eliott is an above average ball handler who had no problem attacking the paint and drawing fouls from the opposition. Some of those fouls lead to three point play opportunities from the free throw line. As I said, this little guy has become stronger. During AAU season, I can't recall him finishing lay-ups while being contacted. This is a credit to Eliott for putting in the work and becoming stronger. He continues to be a pass first point guard who plays the game with an unselfish attitude. Eliott also has the ability to knock down mid or long range shots if he needs to. On defense, he's a fiesty player who likes to get in the space of opposing guards. He makes the effectiveness of his opponent difficult with the defensive pressure he applies. He finished the game with (6 points, 5 assists.) Eliott is a good point guard who's capable of leading any team he plays for. Keep it up Eliott!!

What I appreciated about watching Covi play, was his sheer determination to win at all cost. He didn't have a great shooting night in the game against the Oaks Academy. This aspect of the game didn't stop him from continuing his aggressive play on both sides of the ball. He excelled at driving to the basket and drawing fouls on the opposition. Covi is a good free throw shooter and scorer who stayed in constant "attack mode" whenever he was on the court. He's an excellent rebounding guard who didn't mind battling for boards in the paint. Covi was fearless on the basketball court. He plays the game with hustle and determination to get the job done. On defense, he caused problems with great on-ball defense and constant pressure on the Oaks Academy guards. I see a lot of promise in Covi. If he continues to work and enhance his overall talents, this young man could become a very special player in the near future. Keep working Covi!!

Collin is a hard-nosed guard who played tough on both sides of the court. He was great at getting into the lane and scoring among taller defenders. Collin played with no fear and a ton of energy. He excelled at pushing the pace, which lead to numerous fast-break opportunities. These circumstances often made scoring easy for himself and his teammates. Collin can also rebound really well at the guard spot. He attacked the glass on both sides of the court. A couple of those boards lead to shots along the perimeter for other Oaks Academy players. On defense, this guy was a terror! He pressured the ball, played passing lanes and forced turnovers. I really enjoyed watching Collin play. He has a win first mentality that will take him a long way in the game of basketball. Keep grinding Collin!!

Koda dominated the paint in Thursdays game against the Oaks Academy. He's an excellent rebounder who excelled at grabbing boards on both ends of the court. Koda attacked the glass and scored on numerous put-backs throughout the game. He's a good ball handler who showed the ability to drive by his defender and make plays at the rim. In isolated situations on the wing, he was able to be a threat offensively. Whether it was slashing to the basket, nailing jump-shots or dishing off assists; Koda made it happen. He really showed off his athleticism by running the floor and finishing at the basket. Defensively, he played solid man to man defense and protected the painted area. Koda finished the game with multiple block shots and numerous steals. This young man has a bright future in the game of basketball. Especially, if he perfects his jump-shot. Once he does this, the possibilities will be endless. Keep it up Koda!!

Tobenna continues to be effective in the painted area. During the AAU basketball season, he was able to dominate in the paint even more. Middle School basketball goes at a slower pace as compared to AAU ball. Tobenna still has the capability of being dominate, but seems to be more of a team player. Which is a good thing because now he can focus on all the other aspects of his game. He's an excellent rebounding big man who dominates the glass on both sides of the court. As I said, he's a good inside scorer who made most of his baskets from grabbing offensive rebounds. Tobenna can run the floor and finish at the rim in fast-break situations. On defense, he really excelled at blocking shots with great footwork and timing. In the game against St. Richards, he was able to turn away multiple players attempting to drive into the paint. He finished the game with (6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks.) Keep working Tobenna!!
