One of the nation's most recognizable and respected national basketball programs is Huntington Prep. The basketball factory has produced a long list of high level college players as well as a growing list of NBA players. The student athletes themselves must complete the normal high school credits and classes as well as put in 4-6 hours a day for basketball work. Every player is directed to a weight training program, speed and explosion training as well as individual skill work and group work and team practices. It's the template to be on a college campus and be a student athlete at the next level. Here's some of the 2024-2025 roster that are traveling nationally with the HP program this year including some in-state flavor.

[player_tooltip player_id='1573155' first='Braydon' last='Hawthorne'] has made one of the sharpest and most notable ascents in high school basketball rankings and scouting notoriety on a national level in recent history. Coming from West Virginia and playing high school basketball here until last year, Hawthorne went on a tear of improvement and development that is nearly second to none. The 6'9" wing has firmly inserted himself as one of the state's best prospects in history not to mention currently. Recently committing and signing with WVU, Hawthorne hasn't let up on the floor, If anything he's went even harder. Week to week Braydon is recognized as one of the top players in every event they participate in and raising his proverbial stock while battling some of the nation's top 100 prospects.

[player_tooltip player_id='2243492' first='Dazon' last='Reid'] is the most recent addition to the Huntington Prep roster and what an addition it has been. Not only is it rare that HP has a WV native on the roster, but even more rare to have two, but this does mark the second year in a row it's happened. Reid was a standout point guard at South Charleston High before making the transition to HP and the payoff was almost immediate. Once his talents were on display he quickly garnered the attention of D1 schools most notably Dayton who's shown very strong interest. Reid who's reclassed as a 2027 will have two more years to play if he stays at HP or at another academy but will remain squarely on the D1 recruiting line with much time for bigger programs to take notice. Reid has made the transition to HP and the speed and size of opponents seamlessly and continues to make remarkable play after play while facing up versus some of the nation's best in prep basketball.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194651' first='Kameron' last='Mercer'], a Cincinnati native, is the nation's best 2028 recruit and he's right here in WV at one of the country's top prep programs. Mercer is a 6'5" point guard who's athletic ability and skill are off the charts has not only been labeled as the best 2028 but also one of the top 20 prep players in the world. Mercer is so highly regarded he's already received an offer from Missouri as well as being offered by Ohio State before ever playing a high school basketball game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2623927' first='Koang' last='Bol Kuany'] is currently in his first full basketball season in the US. The 7'2" Ethiopian native will be one of HP's many big man projects that have turned success stories with D1 offers in the end. The skill and weight training required for players in this program always trends players on an upward path and Bol Kuany's will be no different.

[player_tooltip player_id='2691791' first='Nick' last='Wild'] is a 6'11" 2027 player who comes from England and slated to be at Huntington Prep for the remainder of his prep career. Wild has been highly regarded in Europe as one of the top post players and defenders. His time at HP is the beginning of his time in American basketball, transitioning form club basketball in Great Britain and Europe. Currently back in Great Britain playing hoops until the new year, look for Wild to start making noise for HP in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='2691774' first='Cam' last='McDaniels'] who joined the HP program this past fall, was recently named Player of the Game during HP's matchup versus Wilson Academy (GA) posting 20 points 10 rebounds 3 assists 1 steal and 1 block. McDaniels is regarded as a sharp shooting guard who stands at 6'5" and most recently named Player of the Game at the National Holiday Hoopsgiving event in Atlanta Georgia which is heavily attended by top D1 coaches in the country.

[player_tooltip player_id='1801877' first='Cedric' last='Taylor'] is a dynamic 6'10" wing/forward that is starting to get some recruiting noise started. Already with offers from Pepperdine, Radford and Northern Illinois, Taylor also has interest from Old Dominion, Portland and Georgia Southern. Taylor who came to the HP program this fall has quickly gained attention during some of the country's top prep events including "Grind Session" and "The Bash" which are both highly regarded events among scouts and D1 coaches. Cedric was recognized at The Bash as one of the events most outstanding players by fellow PrepHoops writer Andrew Baxley.
