With the high school season getting underway, we at Prep Hoops VA will be taking a look at some previews for the season in each classification. We'll look at both state title contenders, as well as preseason All State teams. Here's a look at our predictions for Preseason First Team All State for the VHSL 6A classification.

POY: [player_tooltip player_id='1410534' first='Jordan' last='Scott'] | 6'7” SF | South Lakes '25

Last year's Class 6 POY comes in as the overwhelming favorite to win it again this year, as the Michigan State commit not only is a high level prospect but seems to step up in the biggest of games like he did in the state championship last year. At 6'7” Scott is a do-it-all wing who can play almost every position for his team, is an unselfish leader and playmaker and is a very good defender as well. He's best known for his ability to make tough shots from all three levels using his size, and he's able to score it in isolation at will at this level.

[player_tooltip player_id='2242382' first='Alex' last='McFarlane'] | 6'5” SG | Hayfield '25

McFarlane stepped into a much bigger role last season for the new look Hawks, and he's become better and more improved over the last year and is ready to be the go-to guy this season. The 6'5” wing has great positional size and the ability to light it up from deep, while also being able to handle in transition and get to the rim at will. He should put up big numbers for a Hayfield team that will be one of the best in the state this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2340871' first='Anthony' last='Lewis'] | 6'3” SG | Oscar Smith '25

Lewis is Oscar Smith's top returner in terms of scoring, and while they have a very balanced team he will be leaned on to do a lot of the scoring for this group. The 6'3” guard is shifty off the bounce and gets to spots effortlessly, he can hit it from deep at a high clip and he's a very good finisher when he gets downhill in traffic. He's played very well in the preseason putting up big numbers as an efficient scorer, and the Tigers are primed for a deep run in the state tournament this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2353657' first='Kaylen' last='Chilton'] | 6'2” CG | CG Woodson '27

Chilton showed flashes of brilliance last year as one of the best freshmen in the state, and now on a deep Woodson team that is set up to make a run for the state championship he should be the go-to guy for them this year. The 6'2” combo is dynamic off the bounce with a shifty handle and a quick first step, he can score the ball in traffic over bigger defenders and he can knock down shots from deep off the catch and off the bounce. He's shown to be an elite scoring guard and has plenty of teammates to create for as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782689' first='Faron' last='Friend'] | 6'5” SG | Glen Allen '26

Friend had a breakout sophomore season for Glen Allen and followed it up with a big summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2248971' first='River' last='City Reign'], and he's one of the more versatile scoring wings you'll come across. At 6'5” he has long arms and is able to make very tough shots over defenders, he can get to the rim where he's an athletic finisher, he can play in transition with or without the ball and he can knock down shots from deep at a good clip. Expect him to put up big numbers throughout the season for a good Jaguars group.

[player_tooltip player_id='2353606' first='Amani' last='Asare'] | 6'0” PG | Potomac '27

Asare transferred to Potomac from Bishop O'Connell where he was playing behind some very good guards, and now that he's at Potomac he'll have the ball in his hands and the green light as the go-to scorer. He's deadly off the bounce with a lightning quick first step and great end-to-end speed, he's great in transition where he can get to the rim at will, he can make shots from multiple levels and he can turn defense into offense. He's already put up big numbers in the preseason and will likely do so all year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782684' first='Isaiah' last='Brown'] | 6'2” SG | Westfield '26

Westfield is going to be a balanced group with a lot of depth particularly in the backcourt, but Brown is the most tenured and experienced player for them as a starter since he was a freshman and will be most likely be the catalyst for them. The 6'2” guard is a very good shot maker who is deadly off the catch from deep, relocates well to get open, can attack and use his strength at the rim and he can get hot quickly and fill it up in bunches. They are set to be one of the toughest teams in the state, and with him being one of their leader scorers he could easily be an All State selection.

[player_tooltip player_id='2451923' first='Quentin' last='Morgan'] | 6'9” C | Deep Run '25

While the Wildcats most likely won't make a deep run in the state tournament, Morgan has been one of the most improved players in the state over the last few years, and will likely average a double-double and could have the most in the state. The 6'9” big is long and explosive around the rim as a finisher and a rebounder, he's able to run the floor in transition for easy buckets, he converts at the free throw line at a good clip and is a good shot blocker as well. I fully expect him to have a great season and his numbers will be tough to keep him out of the conversation for All State.
