About McKowen: The son of Kennedy coach Jon McKowen, Trey is a tough-minded, gritty guard who isn't afraid of any assignment on the defensive end. He has the toughness to hold his own against bigger bodies in the paint, and the lateral quickness and hands to be a lockdown perimeter defender. On the offensive end, he shoots it at an extremely high clip off both the dribble and the catch, and he's a talented playmaker with great vision and handles. He'll head up to Upper Iowa to play his college ball for his uncle, Brooks.

Why he can win Mr. Basketball: McKowen has been a major contributor for back-to-back state-qualifying Kennedy teams that have enjoyed immense success. The Cougars lost a lot of talent off of those teams, but McKowen has a chance to lead the Cougars back to Des Moines, and they do get there, it will largely be on the back of McKowen. He's a flat-out winner.
