Of late they've hosted a tipoff tournament at St Francis to kick off the new campaign, here were some backcourts that came through while I was there November 9.

Charles Buford / [player_tooltip player_id='2691530' first='Kiandrey' last='Thomas'] / Dallas Williams - Notre Dame Academy

Buford, a senior, is the point man, a composed floor leader with good pace and sound decision-making skills. He can go on some scoring runs and appears to be the real key straw for Coach Marshawn Hampton's Wolfhounds. Williams, another senior, is an energy guy and efficient scorer off the bench who can play either guard spot, while 2026 Thomas has some really interesting upside in a combo role with some explosiveness and plenty of moxie. Slippery with range well past the arc, he's a name to watch on a relatively young team that will bring back a bunch in '25-26 and surely add another piece or two. Hampton has some good things going in his second year over in Duluth.

[player_tooltip player_id='2746189' first='Landyn' last='Murphy'] / Cam Cannon / [player_tooltip player_id='2575533' first='Biko' last='Rice'] / [player_tooltip player_id='1835731' first='Ryan' last='Cain'] - Lovett

In a classic 4-guard look, the Lions come at you in waves with these guys who all do a little something different. Murphy has been biding his time to be the feature guy for Coach Mike Harner, and at DT he had some tremendous offensive moments when the team needed them, getting at the rim while locking up like a vice on the defensive end most of the day. The lightbulb has clearly gone off for the senior, mature now after showing us flashes the last two years of the talent we knew was there. Cannon is a top 2027 in the state, a lightning bolt scoring machine who put up huge numbers in this same tipoff last fall, then went out and did it again the first Saturday of the young season with 22 impressive points. He's worth the price of admission. Rice is a classic old school, sixth-man type, who came off the bench in their win over Osborne and was absolutely one of the keys to the game. He's an all-go, no-quit competitor, with some intriguing offensive tools and a frame which can dish it out or take it. Not to be overlooked by any means is Cain, another senior who has been patient waiting for a feature role, and his ability to spot up at the 3-pt line and wait for drive and kicks from Murphy and Cannon make him ideal for this lineup.

[player_tooltip player_id='2425890' first='Tatum' last='Holmes'] / [player_tooltip player_id='2245631' first='Christian' last='Cooper'] / [player_tooltip player_id='2201313' first='Ben' last='Uhde'] - Johns Creek

In dispatching Mt Bethel, Johns Creek showed itself to have taken the next step under Coach Tanner Burnett. They run good stuff, share the ball, and have skill up front to augment the above guards with 6-6 wing [player_tooltip player_id='2025384' first='Thomas' last='Landeck']. The 6-3 Uhde isn't a feature name on the lips of Scouts like Holmes and Cooper for instance, both coming off big summers with SEBA. But the 2026 swingman is making. a case for more attention, as he was lethal from 3-land in crushing any Mt Bethel runs, his 20 points a team-high. Holmes' explosiveness is well documented at 6-5, he had multiple dunks in the game, but his improvement from long-range adds another layer for opponents to worry about. Having watched him for a couple of years now, he's developed into the kind of guy I'd love to coach, something that affects me for sure when I'm out evaluating. Cooper's classic point guard game with downhill speed and high IQ deliveries is in the ilk of the Chris Paul's and Kyrie Irving's of the world (to a lesser degree mind you), giving the Gladiators a confident floor general to play faster and looser. This coming summer could be massive for his exposure if he continues getting better.

[player_tooltip player_id='1300718' first='Connor' last='Teasley'] / [player_tooltip player_id='2275455' first='Rudy' last='Anderson'] / [player_tooltip player_id='1696247' first='Jaron' last='Saulsberry'] - Norcross

This trio checks a whole bunch of boxes on paper when looking at 3-guard combos that can cover the floor completely at both ends and fill a stat sheet from top to bottom. From Peachtree Ridge arrives Teasley, and his maturation and continued progression as an elite scorer has been fun to track. Puzzling that he's still available, whoever gets their act together and lands him at the next level will be getting one heck of a fine basketball player. Anderson brings elite athletic ability from Savannah, and can play point while Teasley does damage from multiple ranges, or switch roles and be a guy that can catch off the drive and kick and really put pressure on the defense with the dribble. He's fun to watch and see what is coming next. Saulsberry is another of the premier athletes in the state, an above-the-rim highlight reel at times whose full game is rounding as he enters his junior season, there's more to see than just the spectacular. This '24-25 revamped lineup suits him I think, it can surely be a chance to show off more of his below-the-rim variety for a Blue Devils crew that is already shaping up to provide plenty of thrills off Spalding Drive under Coach Jesse McMillan.
