While we aren't familiar enough with the incoming freshman class to do a rankings list, we have seen quite a few talented up and coming players in the preseason to keep an eye on. Here's a short list of seven freshman wings and forwards to keep an eye on for the up coming season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2548181' first='Isaiah' last='Carter'] | 6'6” WF | John Marshall

Carter would be in high consideration for the top spot if we did a 2028 rankings, as he's already seen national attention and has shown he'll be an impact player for a JM team that is one of the most talented teams in the country. While he still has to fill out, he already has great physical tools and is likely still growing, as well as an advanced skillset for a player his age. He's already a dead eye shooter from deep who doesn't need much space to get his shot off, he's playing above the rim effortlessly already and he shows no fear when competing against older players.

[player_tooltip player_id='2548144' first='Talon' last='Graves'] | 6'0” WG | Hayfield

Graves was impressive at the PH Freshman Expo as well as showing flashes with Hayfield in their preseason matchups, and he's got a chance to be very good as he develops over time. At 6'0” he has long arms and is nowhere near done growing, he's quick and explosive for a player his age, he can knock down shots from deep and he's shown the ability to create for himself and others off the bounce too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2479654' first='Chaycen' last='Harman'] | 5'11” WG | Floyd County

Harman is next up in a long line of talented shooters that have come out of Floyd County, and he joins a team that already lights it up and will be a dark horse in the VHSL Class 2 this year. A coach's son, Harman already has a great IQ and understanding of the game making the right play consistently, he drills it from deep with great form and good range and he's an unselfish player who will do whatever it takes to help his team win.

Levi Mann | 6'0” WG | Appomattox County

It's been quite some time since I've wrote about a player from Appomattox County, but Mann really impressed at the PH Freshman Expo with his shot making and competitive chip that he plays with. The 6'0” two guard showed no fear competing against bigger and more athletic players challenging them on both ends of the floor, he showed the ability to make shots off the catch and he was good working on the ball to create shots as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2918960' first='Malachi' last='Lee'] | 6'3” WF | Westfield

Lee will likely have to wait his turn on a Westfield team that is chock full of upperclassmen, but don't be surprised if he finds his way on the court throughout the season with his ability to impact the game in a number of ways. The 6'3” wing is long and likely still growing, he's already a good athlete who is dynamic in transition, he can make open shots and he's willing to buy into a role to help his team win.

Nash Avery | 6'9” PF | Bishop Ireton

Avery is the other person I would have considered for the top spot if we did a 2028 rankings, as he wasted no time this summer showing that he could be very special when it's all said and done. Already standing 6'9” with a strong frame and consistently playing above the rim, he's a versatile prospect who's way ahead of what most big men his age play like. He has a new school game where he can protect the rim and switch on guards when he needs to, he runs the floor hard, he can stretch the defense with his shooting ability and he's very good on the glass too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2918931' first='Jarrell' last='Hurt'] | 6'6” PF | Henrico

Hurt is one to keep an eye on at Henrico over the next few years, as he showed impressive flashes this preseason and will likely be thrown into the fire early because he can handle it. At 6'6” and a true freshman who's still growing he already has a good frame that will sure up as he grows into his body, he's physical in the paint and doesn't back down from competition, he has good hands and feet in the paint and soft touch around the rim and out to the elbows too.
