It is officially rankings update time here at the Pope Hoops Indiana headquarters. On Monday we released our updated and expanded Class of 2027 Prospect Rankings featuring our Top 50 prospects along with a loaded Watch List of over 300 more players. In total, we added 118 new names to this rankings update from what we previously had released. We are really proud of the work that went into making that happen. Now, we will spend the week diving deeper into the rankings with positional breakdowns, stock-risers, new names, and a look at some of the names to know on the Watch List. Here are six of the hardest “cuts” we had to make before finalizing our Top 50. As we continue to expand our rankings we expect to see these prospects included. For part one of this top watch list names breakdown CLICK HERE.

Coolman averaged 6.2 points per game as a freshman at Homestead High School to go with 2.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. The skilled point guard is part of a talented Class of 2027 there for the Spartans that should take another step forward this season as sophomores. He is a very talented all-around scorer with enough shiftiness with the ball to create his own shot at multiple different levels.

The list of freshmen starting point guards at the Class 4A level would be a very short one. Hegwood stepped in and took the keys to the car at Roncalli averaging 5.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Now, as a sophomore, he should be ready to take on a heavier scoring role for the Royals. He is a very good ball handler with a high basketball IQ and great court vision.

Prep Hoops Indiana went over to watch Center Grove High School workout a few weeks ago and this sophomore guard stood out with his shot-creation and shot-making ability. He was also very good at the Prep Hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp. The Trojans are reloading this season bringing up a JV group that went undefeated a year ago. Laney, a 6'2" guard, is one that could really blossom as the season goes on as a go-to scorer.

There seems to be a lot of talent coming through the freshman and sophomores classes in southern Indiana right now. Partenheimer is one we have heard a lot of good things about coming out of Forest Park High School, but we simply haven't been able to evaluate him live much at all yet. The 6'6" versatile forward got his feet wet at the varsity level as a freshman and should really break out this winter.

We saw Ray quite a bit this summer between watching him with Chesterton High School at various events or with [program_tooltip program_id='2075551' first='Indiana' last='Game'] in the couple Prep Hoops Circuit events they played in. His shooting ability stands out right away and that alone makes him a very intriguing prospect to follow. Ray has shown some primary playmaking ability as well, but might be best still as a knockdown catch-and-shoot threat. As he grows a bit more he could definitely slide his way into the Top 50.

One of the most productive freshmen that you may not have heard about last season was [player_tooltip player_id='2526294' first='Jayden' last='Younce'] out of Eastbrook High School. The 6'0" guard averaged 11.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while making 60 three-point shots at an impressive 37.3% clip. It is that shooting ability that makes him most intriguing as a freshman. We are anxious to see more of him this season.
