Taking a look at the 4A and the season to come, I've narrowed this list down to four favorites and a few sleepers who could make a push if things line up. Each of these guys has displayed the kind of talent and skill that you would associate with an award of this stature, and many of their teams have what it takes to put them on the biggest stage at the state tournament. Take a look and share your thoughts with the poll at the bottom.

Hernandez comes into the year as one of the top players in the state and boasts the high-level technical skills required for a 6-foot guard to score 25 ppg. He was the head of the dragon on last year's talented squad but this year will be a much different looking team with Hernandez being the only returning starter. He's firmly up here as one of the favorites to win this award but it will be interesting to see how he approaches the new season. Will we see him up his scoring output to even higher levels, or will his underrated passing and playmaking skills come to light even more with four new starters around him?

Martin has shown the state he can play with the best of them and on the biggest stage too. He does all the things you'd expect an all-state caliber guard to do and some. There is no doubt he has the pedigree of putting up stat lines worthy of a POY nod and it should be an exciting senior year for him as Arlington bumps up to play in the WesCo 4A, and against another 4A POY candidate in Josiah Lee.

Lee really burst onto the scene last season with a record-breaking 49-point game and a deep run at the 4A state tournament. He's now not only one of the top players in the 4A, but one of the top players in his class, and has Glacier Peak eyeing a run at a state title. He's one of the most electric scorers in the state and has shown he's capable of creating 10-0 runs on his own and turning a game on its head.

The recent Idaho State commit has been a consistent force over the last two years and can score from each level with a blend of smooth shooting and a keen ability to get to his spots. Things could be coming together not just for Birley in his senior year, but for the West Valley Rams too. They have several guys who have been playing well this summer and Birley is probably pretty determined to end his high school career at the Tacoma Dome.

Holcomb is a unique breed of player that brings a combination of size and skill you won't find in many other guys across the state. At 6-foot-9, he can defend the rim and wall off the middle of the floor, but he can also knock down shots at a high level and create matchup problems on a nightly basis. He'll either need to put up some big numbers or elevate his Union squad to make a run through districts to get some consideration for this award, but he's going to be a guy to watch either way.

Kentwood made a pretty impressive run last year and Tita was a big part of that. He's a super athletic guard who can get downhill with the best of them, setting up his drives with quick, strong moves on the perimeter and sprinkling in shots from outside and the midrange. Kentwood will probably be one of the stronger teams coming out of the 4A this year and that sort of individual and team success could propel Tita into the 4A POY conversation.

This is a guy who constantly impresses me every time I watch him play. He has such a good feel for the game, is able to play fast, get teammates involved, score inside and out, and get it done on the defensive end too. He might get overlooked for this award purely because his numbers won't be as big, but he is set to take on a much larger role with Beckett Currie leaving Camas, and Camas could be a sneaky pick to make a run this coming March.
