We'll take a look at some positional breakdowns in the rankings, looking at the guards, wings and forwards rankings. Here's part three of the guards, ranking the top 5 point and combo guards in the class.

The Fordham commit transfers to an already loaded John Marshall team that will play a national schedule after winning two straight VHSL Class 1 state championships and Player of the Years at Lancaster, and makes for one of the best backcourts in the state. Henderson saw a meteoric rise in his recruitment this summer playing with [program_tooltip program_id='2226307' first='Team' last='Loaded VA'] on the 3SSB Circuit, showing he can do it against the best and not just in small school ball. He's a smooth operator at the lead guard spot who is shifty and changes speeds well, he can create space and knock down shots from deep, he finishes well over bigger defenders and he's a high IQ playmaker who understands concepts and rotations very well.

What's better than one? How about two A10 commits in the backcourt at John Marshall this year, as returner [player_tooltip player_id='1494108' first='Aiden' last='Argabright'], one of two local guards committed to Richmond, will team up with Henderson after being one of the top players on their nationally ranked team last year. Argabright was fantastic all summer as one of the most prolific and efficient guards on the 3SSB Circuit with New World, and he'll pair well with Henderson as he can play both on and off the ball and is also a dual threat guard who can score and make plays. He's a dead eye shooter from deep when he's off the ball, he attacks angles and is shifty off the bounce to get in the lane, he lives at the line with his ability to draw contact and he just always seems to be making winning plays.

Williford had a greta junior season for STAB helping lead them to a VISAA D1 state championship appearance before losing a close one to the national runner up Paul VI, he had a good summer with Team Takeover on the EYBL Circuit, but it was his DMV Live performance without nationally ranked guard [player_tooltip player_id='1259624' first='Chance' last='Mallory'] that saw his stock soar, leading him to recently commit to St. Joe's in the A10. Williford has been one of my favorite players since he was in eighth grade, as he has a “whatever it takes” type of attitude that's just easy to love. He's one of the premier perimeter defenders in the country, he's an explosive athlete at the rim, he can create shots off the bounce and make shots off the catch, and he's an excellent rebounder too.

2) [player_tooltip player_id='2021821' first='Courtland' last='Muldrew'] | 6'3” CG | Oak Hill (#5 Overall)

Muldrew comes to Oak Hill from Arkansas and will join an already talented group in the EYSL, and coming off a big summer with Team Thad on the EYBL Circuit he is a consensus nationally ranked player and one of the most sought after available players in the country. The 6'3” combo guard has taken tremendous strides in his game, learning how to play both on and off the ball and becoming very deadly as a scorer in both ways. He's a very good shooter from deep off the catch but can also punish defenders for going under screens, he's shifty and explosive with the ball in his hands, he plays with great pace and changes speeds well to create space and he is great in late shot clock situations with his ability to create in isolation.

Never in my eight or so years of scouting basketball and doing rankings in VA would I have thought I'd have a sub 5'10” below the rim guard as the #2 player in a senior class, but the fact is if there wasn't a potential lottery pick in two years in this class Mallory would be #1 and he's earned every bit of it. Just check his resume as he's led STAB to two straight state championships where they've fallen to a top 10 team in the country, he was named the VISAA D1 Player of the Year despite PVI having 5 seniors commit to high major schools, he's dominated on the UAA Circuit the last two years and he's a consensus top 100 player in the country. While he's small Mallory is as skilled as they come with his ability to create off the bounce, knock down shots from what some call “Curry range” and make great reads with the ball in his hands. He's strong and crafty finishing at the rim, he is a surprisingly good rebounder for his position and most importantly he's a winner! He recently decided to stay home and attend UVA, where he'll fit in perfectly for Head Coach Tony Bennett and the Cavs.
