The Expo: Oregon - Team One Scouting Report

This past weekend, the Beaverton YMCA hosted the Prep Hoops Expo, hosting over 100 of the top players in the state of Oregon. We'll be going team by team to analyze each player's performance, starting here with team one.    He's a quick guard who really showed the ability to get his shots off quickly and under duress at The Expo. Was drilling shots from the midrange off the bounce, catch and shoot threes from all around the arc, and showed some tough shot-making ability with some contested fadeaways. Impressive shooter but also strong off the dribble and created space with compact moves.     The lefty was aggressive looking for gaps to attack downhill and played with some good pace overall. Looked to get out and fill lanes on the break, beating defenders down the floor for several quick buckets, and applied some heavy pressure at times on ballhandlers. He's a quick guard who made the most of his minutes by playing hard and challenging opposing players.     Overall, a solid performance for the junior guard. Played hard on both ends, showed off a good stroke out to 3-point range, and displayed the ability to play with some athleticism; beating guys to spots, finishing high at the rim, and making quick bursts out of the standstill to beat his man.     Did well moving without the ball, reading his defender from the weak side to make back-door cuts and find space along the baseline. Showed some ability to hit shots from different levels and was pretty active defensively getting his hands on some passes that led to fast break opportunities.     Showed some strength and vision to find gaps and attack them with purpose, working through swipes and able to split multiple defenders on his way to the hoop. Also showed some good patience and touch passing the ball out of PNR action.     Big-time athlete who got up for several dunks and did a great job leaking out on defensive rebounds to get ahead in transition. He's the kind of athlete who seems to glide across the court and then kick it into that next gear to blow by defenders or rise up to make a play at the rim. Also showed some solid shooting from deep.     One of the smaller players at The Expo but played with good toughness and aggression. Was quick to move to loose balls and long rebounds, could handle some contact and stay balanced, and was pretty unselfish to get the ball moving and make quick decisions with the ball.     One of the better passers I saw at The Expo, Lawson made dishes from just about every spot on the court and never seemed to put one off target. Whether it was a simple swing pass to the corner, long passes up the court in transition, or finding guys off his own penetration, he put the ball on time and on the mark.     Showed a good mix of outside shooting, rebounding, and the awareness to find space around the paint off the ball. He's a strong kid who was able to take contact and alter his shot to complete the play, as well as go up strong through swipes to finish inside. Also made some nice decisions on the break, patiently waiting for defenders to either step up or wait back in advantage situations.     Played with some good pace and showed a nice combo of athleticism and shiftiness to win the first step on the outside and attack downhill. Incorporated good fakes and jabs along the perimeter and showed the ability to stroke some threes with defenders closing out tight on him.
