College Commitment – Isaiah Crane (2023 Jesuit/Carroll-MT)
The journey to Division I basketball may not have come right out of Jesuit High School for Isaiah Crane, but he never wavered during the process. The hard-working 6-foot guard found a place to start working at Carroll College in Montana, and three years later with a tremendous body of work behind him it was time to move on. The recruiting interest immediately came for him and offers were on the table, but Crane didn't waste any time finding a new spot as he announced late last week he'll be headed to Montana State.
"I mean when you have a really good thing ahead of you why would I want to sit around and delay the process," Crane said. "I wanted to make my decision before the D-I portal opened - I didn't want to sit around with them guys and have to wait and find a school in May. I felt like Montana State was the place for me because the biggest thing I was looking for was opportunity and fit and both of those things look really good for me. The business school is really good and I want to set my self up for life after basketball."
Crane made his decision not long after making a visit to Bozeman, where the connection was practically instant. There's definitely opportunity for him both on and off the court, and he's excited about getting started. "Well nothing is guaranteed but the guards that just graduated were their two best players so I gotta go claim that spotm" Crane said. "But they let their guards go."
In three years at Carroll, Crane evolved from behind a late spring signee out of high school and a redshirt freshman season to becoming the Frontier Conference Player of the Year and Second Team NAIA All-American after averaging 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while shooting 54 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. The transition to D-I basketball will require some adjustment but there's no question he's ready to get to work.
"I'm going to keep working regardless every year in my college career I've grew and it shows from each year," Crane said. "I want to get better playing off two reading the whole defense and shooting off the bounce."
Our congratulations go out to Crane and his family on his decision.
