Underrated, Under The Radar, Up And Coming

Who are some of the underrated, under the radar, and up and coming prospects in South Dakota? Prep Hoops Dakotas has been reviewing film in preparation for the upcoming rankings, and we have 12 names for you.    Stout is a built, strong, compact, scoring 2-guard for Kadoka Area. He protects the ball and attacks with power and quickness. Averaged 17.0 ppg. as a Junior. Does a lot of his scoring damage going at the hoop, pulling up, getting to a floater, or finishing through contact at the hoop. He likes to go to his right hand and get to his spots. He's also a capable three-point shooter that needs to be respected from there. A strong rebounder for a guard, and he pulled down 7.0 rebounds per game last season. If his efficiency from three improves, his scoring average could be 20+.     Hermann is a hard-working and physical, versatile player. Not a natural basketball player, but he absolutely gets the job done with physicality and effort. Can defend Bigs in the paint at 6'2”. Did a little bit of everything for Kadoka Area, with a stat-line of 15.5 ppg., 6.7 rpg., 2.7 apg., and 1.0 spg. He works his tail off for loose balls and the ball in the air. Runs the floor hard and lays his body on the line. Boxes out, moves bodies, and competes for boards.     Carter is a 2-guard that started JV and got varsity minutes for Wall as a Freshman. He doesn't have any elite traits as far as size or explosiveness, but he's a solid and smart guard on both ends. He's a guard that doesn't make many mistakes with the ball and values possessions. A good three-point shooter that can knock them down and I didn't see him force bad shots.     Dinger was one of the most accurate three-point shooters in the state last season as a Sophomore. Per MAXPREPS, he was 46-114 for 40% from three. He's a catch-and-shoot specialist that is money when he's set and given space. He showed he can hit deep ones as well, from the games I saw.     Dawson was a starting guard for Wall as a Sophomore and handled the ball for them. He has some good length to him with a lanky frame. Moves well and it looks like he's getting recruited for football per social media. A good shooter that hit 31 threes and was 20-25 (80%) from the free throw line.     Carlbom is an up-and-comer that has some potential and upside given his lengthy 6'3” frame with movement and jumping ability. He's raw and has a ways to go, but he's also only going to be a Freshman. Depending on how he grows physically and with his skill set, he could become a long wing or an athletic 4-man that can use length and vertical in the paint on both ends.     Deal may be the most under-the-radar guard in the state. He needs to be recognized and he'll be added to the 2026 rankings. He's an explosive, quick, athletic, and skilled point guard. A quick-twitch athlete that has the ball skills to match. Handles the ball well and at speed, as well as being a knockdown three-point shooter with a beautiful stroke. Has good explosion to him in the open court and getting to the hoop. He can elevate for a small guard when he gets to the hoop. Defensively he stands out and makes a huge impact as well. Stanley County uses his strengths by bringing full-court pressure defense.     After getting to watch more Stanley County, Duffy will need to be moved up the rankings considerably in the 2027 class. He's a skilled and talented guard, with handles and legit three-ball. Can create his own offense and threes. He can fill it up as a scorer, but his court awareness and vision as a passer seem to be elite traits he owns as well. He seems to have fairly long arms for a 6'0” guard.     Relf may not be a household name because he hasn't hit the varsity scene yet, being an underclassmen at the AA level. But he showed himself to be an underrated and under-the-radar prospect this offseason with [program_tooltip program_id='2145852' first='SD' last='Identity']. He's a low to the ground, compact, and quick combo guard. He's skilled and controlled with his handle. A major three-point weapon for [program_tooltip program_id='2145852' first='SD' last='Identity'] 16U Blue. He's able to get to his floater with the defense selling out on his three.     Aksel will be a new addition to the SD 2025 rankings, and he's a very nice add as a quality guard with good length and a basketball body. At 6'3”, he can handle the rock and put it on the floor to score. He has a capable pull-up game and three-ball, making him a three-level scorer. He's an athletic prospect that can jump and dunk, and also a shot-blocking guard. Can get off the ground and sky up for rebounds.     Kieffer started as an eighth-grader for a Lyman team that went 5-16. He was an undersized Big on the varsity level, but he runs and moves extremely well. He'll need to keep growing to be considered a next-level Big, but he has the experience to go along with his high energy effort on the court. I'm curious to see what his listed height will be for his Freshman season.     Volmer is a youngster to monitor because he could be a kid that reaches a great positional height with lengthy arms as a guard/wing. He started for Lyman as a Freshman, and if he can improve his handling and shooting, he could surprise and be a late-blooming prospect. His movement and cutting without the ball and non-stop motor are a couple of his main strengths on the court.
