Iowa Freshman Showcase: Team 8 Evaluations

Brown (pictured) is a quick, athletic guard who loves to play downhill and attack the bucket, creating looks for himself and his teammates at a high level. He's a creative finisher around the rim with either hand, and he plays really well in ball screen actions, being a triple threat who can turn the corner and get to the rim, pull up and shoot it, or find the open roll or pop man for buckets. He has a really good feel for the game and positions himself in the right spots on both ends of the floor.     Christiansen does a great job playing with pace and using his change of speed and handles to get by defenders. He shoots it well off the dribble, getting the ball into his shooting pocket quickly and elevating into his shot on a dime. He sees the floor well and is a skilled, willing passer.     Carter has a fantastic feel for the game, great vision, and tight handles that he uses to create plays off the dribble for himself and his teammates. He uses ball screens really well, turning the corner tight and getting to the rim, where he displayed great body control and the ability to finish through contact. He does a nice job changing speeds and playing with pace, and he's a gifted passer who loves to get his teammates involved.     Lovely is a talented combo guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands. When he has the ball, he's a skilled playmaker off the dribble who handles it well and has great court vision. When he's operating without the ball in his hands, he's a talented shooter off the catch with a quick, smooth release. He's an active defender with quick hands and feet.     Gary is a strong, athletic guard with an explosive, quick first step that he uses to blow by defenders and get to the rim for finishes. He finishes really well around the bucket through contact. He does a great job playing with pace, changing speeds to help get by defenders, and he's a gifted passer with great court vision. On the defensive end he's a really good on-ball defender who moves his feet well and he has quick hands that he used to routinely pick opposing ball-handlers clean.     Harris is an impressive athlete with a big, strong, physical frame that he uses to finish through contact at the bucket. He's an explosive athlete who elevates at the rim and finishes with authority, and he loves to play downhill. His strength allows him to defend against bigger bodies, and his quickness, length, and athleticism allows him to defend on the perimeter effectively.
