The Freshman Showcase at Fidelity Sportsplex is hosted by Prep Hoops is off to a fast start. The morning session began with warm-ups followed by 3-on-3 play. There have been some very good players who have taken the court thus far. In this early morning review, we will look at some who impressed during 3x3 play.

Dominic Spinks, Jr. (Germantown) - The guard out of Mississippi is a 2028 version of Monte Ellis. He has a tight and quick handle which helps him keep defenders off balance. Spinks handled the ball well in traffic and got to the rim in a hiccup. While his jumper was a little off this morning, there is no denying him getting to the rim. A very impressive early morning.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194600' first='Christian' last='Clair'] (AB Shaw) - Clair is another guard who has the instincts and game to be a great guard. His lefty handle is deceptive. He uses the dribble and makes ultra quick moves to get by defenders. Clair sets up passes well and makes the right pass to cutters going to the basket. His defense was impressive in that he defended everyone no matter the height. He is a player who has a great feel for what is going on during game play.

Brennon Moreno (St. Thomas More) - Moreno knows how to use his body to make plays in a 3x3 setting. He displayed the ability to post up but did not just use his height to score. Brennon was patient and often waited on cutters to make themselves available for cuts. When rebounding, he kept the ball high and showed the ability to handle it. While he did score when he had the opportunity, he showed a high IQ for the game.

Jay Dantzler (AB Hannan) - Dantzler proved to be a good all-around player during 3-on-3. He has a lightning first step and showed he could penetrate and score or penetrate and pass. His passing ability after getting defenders to commit to blocking his shot was impressive. Dantzler is an intelligent player who sees plays ahead of time. His natural ability and instincts were definitely on display.

Kendrick Davenport (Winnfield) - Davenport played at a high level during 3x3 at all times. He displayed the ability to handle the ball and get to the rim no matter who was defending. His man-to-man defense was very good. He stole the ball several times, set up the offense, and found cutters going to the rim. Davenport is another high IQ guard who showed a ton of potential during morning game play.

Early 3-on-3 play was followed with a break session and then 5-on-5 play. The freshmen in the gym have impressed so far. I look forward to seeing what the rest of the session will bring.
