Continue ReadingThe June scholastic period has been underway and one of the things that a bit reflective of the times is a number of players have changed jerseys from the last time we saw them last season. While they may not eventually end up at their new schools next fall, these players have filed an intent to transfer and are currently playing for and with their potential new coaches and teammates. Here’s a quick look at some of the rising seniors we’ve seen so far.
11 – Cole Hammack Cole Hammack 5'10" | PG Wilsonville | 2025 State OR , Wilsonville
With the departure of former head coach Tully Wagner to Lake Oswego, Hammack has also moved on from North Marion and has immediately stepped into the point guard spot for Wilsonville. He’s done a credible job within the new offense, continuing to be a threat both with his high-level scoring and passing ability.
21 – Jessley Bukeyenza Jessley Bukeyenza 6'1" | PG Century | 2025 State OR , Roosevelt
Unable to play so far due to a wrist injury, Bukeyenza will be available to play soon with his potential future Roosevelt teammates. The 6-foot-2 combo guard will add perimeter strength and offensive skills to what’s already a deep group of fast and quick backcourt performers in North Portland.
24 – Walt Rosenberg Walt Rosenberg 6'6" | PF Sherwood | 2025 State OR , Sherwood
Rosenberg heads northeast up 99W to Sherwood, where he’ll add a dimension of pure post play for the Bowmen. His presence and ability to play big inside on both ends has allowed head coach Rahim Tufts to utilize his other athletic big men in different ways by allowing them to attack from the perimeter.
31 – Anthony Best Anthony Best 6'5" | SF Sprague | 2025 State OR , Sprague
Jumping up to 6A from 4A Cascade shouldn’t be an issue for Best, who has been competing at a high level on the AAU circuit with NW Drip. The versatile 6-foot-6 forward can do damage both inside and out, and he adds much needed size to an Olympians team that already has a solid backcourt attack with Jarod Stanley Jarod Stanley 6'4" | PG Sprague | 2025 State OR and Braxton Long.
54 – Corbin Cichy Corbin Cichy 6'3" | SF Tigard | 2025 State OR , Tigard
After playing the past couple of years with Lake Oswego, Cichy returns to Tigard where he should step up immediately as one of the senior leaders of a young team. A deadeye marksman from three, the 6-foot-3 wing is a relentless hard worker who has improved his ball skills and will be a key piece for new head coach Stu Bailey.
56 – Jaiden Pickett Jaiden Pickett 6'1" | SG Rex Putnam | 2025 State OR , Nelson
The leading scorer from Putnam’s 5A tournament squad last season, Pickett moves to Nelson and becomes an experienced senior for a young Hawks squad. The lanky lefty can stroke the three with confidence and his athleticism on the wing will prove to be effective on both ends for head coach Daniel Blanks’ talented team.
60 – Jaxson Spafford Jaxson Spafford 5'10" | PG Putnam | 2025 State OR , Putnam
Moving back over from Milwaukie, Spafford should immediately get the ball handed over to him as he’s one of 5A’s leading returning scoring threats. The quick and shifty guard plays bigger than his listed 5-foot-10 size and there’s no question his ability to fill it up from the perimeter will be highly utilized by the Kingsmen.
72 – Ahshua Neal Ahshua Neal 6'5" | SF Nelson | 2025 State OR , Nelson
Another senior transfer to Nelson is Neal, who comes over from Centennial. He adds another three-point threat from the perimeter but his size and strength at 6-foot-5 will be valuable on the boards and defense for the up-and-coming Hawks roster.
