Cougars Collect a Couple of Signees
One of the most successful programs in the NWAC, Clackamas has traditionally stocked its roster with players from in-state and that hasn't changed with head coach Brian Stamme. The Cougars have gotten off to a quick start with their recruiting class with a couple of high school signees from Oregon, with both coming in after successful prep careers at schools not far away from the Oregon City campus.
Coming to Clackamas from Southeast Portland will be a recruit with a familiar name in Jackson Satterthwaite. Satterthwaite's older brother Lincoln just recently completed his career at Clackamas and is moving on to Corban, and younger Jackson is hoping to follow in his brother's footsteps. The 6-foot-5 swingman had a strong senior season at David Douglas, averaging 15.5 points and 7.1 rebounds, and is looking forward to what's ahead for him with the Cougars.
"My brother went there and developed into a great basketball player," Satterthwaite said. "He told me a lot about the coaches and staff he was around and they were all good things so that helped my decision. The teachers he told me about are very understanding, reasonable, and flexible and they want you to succeed which is really inviting. Hopefully the future brings good opportunities and improvement in my basketball career and clackamas can definitely help me with that."
To get his other in-state recruit so far, Stamme didn't have to go far at all - in fact, one might say it was only a stone's throw. Oregon City has sent several players to Clackamas over the years and the latest is Alijah Scott. The athletic 6-foot-2 guard helped lead the Pioneers to the state tournament while averaging 12.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game and he projects to contribute right away for the Cougars.
"Just getting to know the community and getting to talk to (Coach) Stamme, he has the most confidence in me," Scott said. "Overall, it's just a great decision with my living situation and it's a great program that I feel like I'll excel at. I'll definitely be a top guy there for sure and with my work ethic and skill set, I could play all five positions. I'm just trying to get more athletic every day, working on my shooting, and being able to be confident and a three-level scorer."
Our congratulations go out to Satterthwaite and Scott and their families on their decision.
