There were some definite shooting displays over the course of the event but none may have been hotter than Spafford’s performance in the 5th place game. The Putnam senior was absolutely on fire from distance, hitting eight threes and scoring 32 points total in 5A’s win over the Central Valley – a win where the team piled up 94 points. Spafford should be an immediate contributor at Portland CC this upcoming season.

Fanastic event for Spafford, who continued to show great decision making as a point guard this off-season. Was sharp with his shot and scored at all three levels, but did a great job setting up the table for others. Worked particularly well with teammate

Spafford played on the same team as Barron and the two became arguably the top one-two punch as they seamlessly worked together on a number of plays. As he’s done throughout the camp scene this fall, the Putnam senior proved himself with his floor leadership as he capably and unselfishly shared the ball to find open teammates for scores just as much as he did damage with his lethal outside shooting. This helped him be the only point guard named to All-Showcase Team.

If there was an MVP named it likely would have been Spafford. The rising Milwaukee senior simply couldn’t be stopped on the offensive end, especially on Sunday as he was draining shots left and right, whether it was catching and shooting off the ball or using the dribble to create for himself. Spafford even used his little nudge into his defender and fall-down move to convert a couple of traditional and-one opportunities. Far from just being a gunner, he also showed in a couple of games his ability to run the point and find open teammates for scores. A true competitor, Spafford has a little bit of that chip on his shoulder “edge” that led to Carr Sports Academy winning the title.
