Section-7 Qualifier: 2026 Pure PG’s

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>June 17th-18th I watched the second ever<strong>&nbsp;Section-7 Qualifier</strong>. There were 96 teams in 12 pools of 8 teams each.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 12 winners advanced to the official&nbsp;<strong>Section-7</strong>&nbsp;June 21st-23rd versus some of the top teams in the West Coast.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I took in a bunch of full games and half of some of the games. Some of the top teams unfortunately for myself (great for the team) were already clearly blowing out their opponent and the bench five were already playing, so I missed them play.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Here were the standout pure point guards from the junior class</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1150901' first='John' last='Mattingly'] Central&nbsp;(Pictured)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A natural scoring point guard with an elite feel for the game. He made some of the best passes of the two days. His timing on his passes are flawless as he threaded the needle. He scores on pull-ups, he rebounds unusually well and will even block shots. He took over the game to qualify for the weekends Section-7 with anything he needed to do.   </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1323292' first='Joseph' last='Lindsey'] Carl Hayden&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A pure PG with a super tight handle and advanced court vision. He passes the ball with either hand perfectly in stride and has a different level of speed with the ball then most. He is one of the best natural passers in the class and made his teammates better.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1323293' first='Tory' last='Gholston'] Coolidge</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A very fast and skilled point guard. He uses his speed in the open court and can score with pull-ups off the dribble and will shoot the three. He is quick on defense and his mid-range game is becoming his sweet spot.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2039491' first='Kamari' last='Stanbury'] Gilbert Christian&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A pure point guard with speed and a tight handle. He got hot from deep and rattled in threes off the catch and shot three triples in a row. He moves the ball to his teammates and is quick on the ball defensively.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1598402' first='Johnny' last='Rios III'] Centennial&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A pure PG who makes players around him better. He will score with the catch three using a quick trigger and pull-ups. He will throw passes to his teammates up the court and even back door passes. He is also a feisty on-ball defender.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2134454' first='Kameron' last='Pippen'] Palo Verde</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A downhill strong pure point guard is a dimer up the court. He will throw a rope to a running teammate and will drive and kick it. He absorbs the contact better then most with his football type frame and is a gamer.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1303324' first='Jack' last='Van Amburg'] Catalina Foothills</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A pure point guard has a stronger upper body frame and will score on pull-ups from mid-range, step backs in the post, pull-up threes, quick bursts to the paint and can handle the bump or get fouled. He moves the ball, he is a good interior passer to his bigs and thinks the game.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1574517' first='Jaylin' last='Ideran'] Camelback</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A very fluid scoring point guard. He is a really good ball handler as the ball is on a string and he is gliding out on the court. He makes good reads and sees the court quickly. He score with quick bursts, pull-ups and occasionally deep threes.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
