June 6th-8th I attended the 17th annual Best in Basketball Summer Invitational at Mesquite HS in Gilbert/AZ. There were 24 teams playing in five showcase type of games over the three days.

Here are the Newcomers I viewed

[player_tooltip player_id='2457855' first='Lucas' last='Alvarez'] Pinnacle

A good sized scoring guard is one of many talented incoming freshman. He handles the ball well and he will score with pull-ups, tough shots off the dribble with runners. He will rebound in his area and brings an IQ to the court with awareness.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457881' first='Dylan' last='Alvidrez'] Seton Catholic

A physical wing forward is a little undersized but he can step out and shoot the three and then post up in the paint. He tracks the ball well to rebound and is a very good passer. He fills the box score for the Sentinels and is hard to keep off the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457665' first='Viktor' last='Babic'] ALA Gilbert North

A long and very tall wing forward. The Serbian is a skilled lefty who can shoot it from mid to the three point line. He moves well from end to end and will rebound and score in the paint. He is pushing six-foot six and looks to be a nice future piece to the team.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457854' first='Grant' last='Budde'] Pinnacle (Pictured)

A bigger forward is going to keep growing for sure. He will score with blow by's with a quick rip thru and will score in traffic. He is a very good passer and has a high feel for position. He has huge feet and he is extremely young. He moves well in space and this one has a high upside.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457860' first='Chris' last='Cardon'] Campo Verde

An undersized power forward is a glass cleaner. He will score with offensive rebound put backs and is tough to score thru contact. He is a good passer and can create his own offense. He will euro step down the lane, dribble drive to the basket and he is a quick second jumper with a big motor on the glass.

[player_tooltip player_id='2458310' first='Elijah' last='Classen'] Valley Christian

A long and lean defensive shooting guard. He can catch and shoot from the three point line. He is very fast in the open court and will finish tough layups in transition. His on-ball defense stands out and looks to be a future 3 and D type.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457842' first='Samuel' last='Davis'] Seton Catholic

A long and lean bigger PG is a tough on-ball defender and facilitator. He reads the court off of the pick and roll game. He can get to the basket and will drive and kick it to a teammate after a burst of speed and finish with floaters. He is a capable perimeter shooter and has good lateral quickness and quick feet to go along with his length for defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457862' first='Juleus' last='Lewis'] Corona del Sol

A thicker framed scoring guard will have himself a breakout year. As 13 seniors graduate, he will score with mid-range pull-ups off the dribble, tough scores thru contact and he is a good passer. He will compliment standout [player_tooltip player_id='1890161' first='Deshaun' last='Johnson'].

[player_tooltip player_id='2457861' first='Mykel' last='Simpson'] Arcadia

An undersized hyper athletic combo guard will help them immediately this year. He is a sneaky good passer and a very good on-ball defender. He is very athletic to throw it down on the break or lay it in. He is a slick ball handler to get downhill using a quick first step. He will score thru contact as does not mind the contact.

[player_tooltip player_id='2301235' first='Rhys' last='M. Robinson'] Pinnacle

A thicker wing is a good passer and will rebound. He has high skill level and can handle it. He can rise up from mid-range, cut off the ball for buckets and will rattle in threes off the catch with range and a quick trigger. He is just scratching the surface.

FIVE MORE STANDOUTS

[player_tooltip player_id='1430450' first='Elijah' last='Brush'] Hamilton

A highly skilled forward has a nice touch from the three point line and from mid-range. Pushing six-foot five, he can score around the basket with good footwork and kiss it off the glass. He rebounds well and plays a cerebral game. You rarely see him play out of character and moves the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146280' first='Taj' last='Deloney'] Mesquite

A pure point guard is a true facilitator. The lefty can get downhill using his ultra shifty tight handle and speed. He sees the court and will find teammates in stride. He uses his quick feet and hands to pester opposing ball handlers.

[player_tooltip player_id='1371095' first='Noah' last='Oliver'] Canyon View

A taller combo guard who brings toughness. With one of their top players transferring, Oliver, in my opinion is the one who will step it up to be that third option. He can make a play for a teammate plus uses his strength to get downhill and score in traffic. He is a very good on-ball defender and a capable perimeter shooter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2291973' first='Connor' last='Tefteller'] Campo Verde

A pure point guard will run their second unit perfectly. He makes plays for others and will drive and kick it straight into a teammates shooting pocket. He has some speed with the ball and can in and out dribble and throw the rope for the dime.

[player_tooltip player_id='1446109' first='Isaiah' last='Tippit'] Bella Vista Prep

An undersized scoring point guard is quick, shifty and super confident. He can go on his own personal runs with deep triples, quick bursts to the basket and is very fast on the break. He can find teammates and brings some skill and toughness to the court.
