One of the more productive shooters in the GMC last year, Maginn averaged 13.5 PPG and knocked down 42 3-pointers for Oak Hills. Playing for his high school head coach on the grassroots circuit, you can see the comfort Maginn has playing in his system. After a large growth spurt from Sophomore to Junior year, Maginn now stands just shy of 6′ tall. A hard worker, Maginn took a huge leap from 6 total varsity points as a Sophomore to all conference honors as a Junior. Look for Maginn to continue to develop into a nice small college target for regional programs this summer.

One of the few committed prospects in Ohio’s 2025 class, Buchanan wanted to stay close to home and committed to Rio Grande back in March. A strong guard who wants to use his physicality when driving to the paint, Buchanan had a strong season next to Chase Allen Chase Allen 6’1″ | CG Proctorville Fairland | 2024 State OH in the back-court for Fairland. With Allen graduated, it’ll be on Buchanan’s shoulders to keep the Dragons near the top of the OVC. Buchanan plays at his own pace and loves the 8-12 foot pull-up jumpers to avoid rim contests from bigs. That is a tough shot to make but one that if you have the confidence to make, can be a great way for undersized guards to score while attacking downhill. Southeast Ohio usually has a couple sleepers every year and Buchanan is a name to know from the area in the 2025 class.

One of the top shooters from northeast Ohio in the 2025 class, Shenker can make it rain from the outside. Doesn’t need much time or space from 3-point range to let it fly, when Shenker’s feet are set it’s usually a bucket. Hoping to see Shenker diversify his game as a senior and impact the game in more ways than just shooting. If Shenker can make an improvement with his play-making or defensive ability, he will become a more valuable recruit for small college programs. High academic programs should look at Shenker as an option to add shooting to their program.

I don’t get to see players from the Youngstown area as much as some other parts of the state, so I was happy I caught Bates with HoopTech back in Fort Wayne a couple weekends ago. Averaging 21 PPG as a Junior at Liberty, Bates showed me the ability to attack the rim with a quick first step. The euro-step seemed to be his preferred move to shake defenders off at the basket and Bates also is a solid shooter with his feet set. One of the top rising seniors in the Youngstown area, Bates is a name to know if you are a small college program recruiting that area.

Already a 1,000 point scorer for Western Latham, Haggy is one of the top guards in southeast Ohio. With the microwave scoring ability to get hot in a hurry from the outside, Haggy has the ability to take over games with his perimeter shooting ability. Got to see Haggy compete at our Prep Hoops 250 Expo back in the fall and he impressed with his overall perimeter scoring ability. Western Latham went 25-3 when Haggy was a freshman and won a district championship. After struggling the past two years, hopefully Haggy can help turn things around and have them competing for conference and district titles once again.
