The only thing that the switch has done, is placed more emphasis on the live periods. The next high school one is fast approaching May 17th – 19th. While everyone likes size, you don’t win on the college level without some really good guards. Here’s a look at some of the top available local guards coaches should watch out for during the upcoming live period.
Jefferson is a winner and he validated that last season by leading his Bishop Gorman squad to the 5A state title. He currently is sitting on a Southern Utah and UTSA offer. He’s been receiving interest from some mid and high majors as well. Running with Vegas Elite should only allow him to garner more interest.

Probably one of the players hurt most by the new found popularity of the transfer Portal. Yapi is a highly skilled playmaker with elite handle and passing ability. He will probably have to play the waiting game, however his skill level combined with the success he’s had on both the high school and prep level, will make him an attractive target to watch during the upcoming live period.

Jackson will be one of the most polarizing live period players. The PG is a hooper, no matter what you list him at. He does it on both sides of the ball, and can shoot, handle and defend at a Division 1 level. Someone will have to accept the fact that he’s a smaller guard, however I challenge you to find possessions that he takes off or gets beat.
Much respect for Dacuma. He was one of the highest rising guards in the recent rankings and a it was all do to his clutchness and leadership. In addition to the intangibles Dacuma shoots the cover off the ball. He played well last season during the summer live period, look for him to raise his game again this Spring.
Thomas is a maniacal competitor that has already started taking his game to another level. He’s having a big start to the Grassroots season. The PG who holds offers from Creighton and home town UNLV is one of the top 2026 PG’s in the country.

Heart, grit, toughness. If you’re looking for those traits, Tai Coleman Tai Coleman 5’10” | PG Democracy Prep | 2026 State NV has been demonstrating them for years. The PG seamlessly has the ability to switch from facilitator to scorer in an instant, and is an assassin that runs toward the ball with the game on the line. Playing for the high profile Vegas Elite squad, look for his recruiting only to continue to gain steam during the upcoming live period.

It’s never to early to find a PG, so expect recruiters to look Johnson’s way. He has game changing speed and athleticism. The biggest issue may end up being which sport he chooses as the PG is coming off a freshman season that saw him star on both the Gridiron and hardwood.
