In addition to being our No. 1 ranked 2027 prospect in Delaware, the 6’4” Newson is considered a Top 50 prospect nationally for the 2027 graduate year. He already holds offers from Virginia Tech and Arizona State.
During his freshman season at Sanford this ultra-quick perimeter prospect with a long wingspan averaged 12 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the field. Back in February, Newson posted a season high 22 points on the strength of three made triples versus Caravel Academy (DE). Newson also registered 20 points (1 3PM) against Tower Hill (DE).
On the grassroots circuit Newson plays for Team Final EYBL. Newson is currently posting 14 points and 5 rebounds per contest on the 2024 EYBL Circuit. In late April he was a standout performer at the Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest too.
Academy of New Church head Coach Kevin Givens is ecstatic about the addition of Newson, “Marquis is a high character kid with a bright future, and he is a pleasure to coach. That is what we love about him.”
“He is 6’4” and can play the wing or the point for us. He can score it, is a decent shooter and sees the floor very well. Marquis can also guard 1 through 5,” Givens continued.
“We pride ourselves in being a tough defensive team. Once Marquis learns to play gridiron defense — the ANC way – there is no limit for what he can do,” Givens said.
