The soon to be sophomore class in Southern California is shaping up to be a strong group of prospects at each position. We developed a list of 77 freshmen – soon to be sophomores – who should be on the radar of college coaches as they ascend through the high school ranks. In this piece we break down the point guards that college coaches should keep close tabs on.

[player_tooltip player_id='2307230' first='Cisco' last='Munoz'] | Vista Murrieta

In a class loaded with good point guards, Munoz proved that his name belongs in that conversation. The 5-foot-11 freshman led his team in scoring at 17.8 and assists with 4.8 per game which translated to a 24-5 overall record on the season. Munoz is a crafty playmaker with the ball in his hands, can score from multiple levels of the floor and showed a knack for making winning plays.

[player_tooltip player_id='2435392' first='Earl' last='Bryson'] | JSerra

Bryson saw spot minutes on a very good and veteran JSerra team that made the CIF Southern Section Open Division playoff field. The 6-footer showed flashes of toughness, defensive IQ and the ability to run a team in the limited minutes he did receive and we think he will be a major part of the Lions future in the backcourt.

[player_tooltip player_id='2436268' first='Gary' last='Ferguson'] | Westchester

Ferguson has extremely fluid and natural feel for the game that lend to his smooth spot-shooting abilities from three-point range. As a playmaker, Ferguson uses his stop-and-go and quick change of direction to keep defenders off-balance and get into the lane where he can score with a floater or pull-up or dish to an open teammate.

[player_tooltip player_id='2436254' first='Jaden' last='Berry'] | Corona Centennial

Berry spent most of his time on the junior varsity level for Corona Centennial last season and in the game we saw against Eastvale Roosevelt he flashed everything you want in a varsity signal caller. At 5-feet-11, Berry has great speed and body control off the dribble. He rarely gets sped up, takes care of the ball, plays with good pace and has a good understanding of how to run a team. Berry should see plenty of minutes at the varsity level as a sophomore.

[player_tooltip player_id='2436274' first='Jordan' last='Hampton'] | Windward

Hampton played some back-up minutes on a good Windward team that made the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship game and showed a lot of promise to take over the point guard spot once [player_tooltip player_id='1630623' first='Gavin' last='Hightower'] graduates. The 6-footer is quick and shifty in the open court but is also a steady decision-maker who proved to be an extension of the coach on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2436278' first='Malcolm' last='Price'] | St. Joseph

Price has been playing back-up minutes behind his older brother, Julius, who is one of the top-ranked players in SoCal's 2026 class. The younger Price has similar game to his brother when it comes to downhill speed in transition and the ability to put pressure on the defense, collapse it, and kick to open shooters. Price doesn't have the offensive confidence yet but his catch and shoot jumper looks good.

[player_tooltip player_id='2436261' first='Sloane' last='Harris'] | Etiwanda

Harris is a defense-oriented guard whose combination of size, strength and physicality will result in him being able to guard multiple perimeter spots once his athleticism kicks in. Harris is an effective driver and finisher who can absorb contact, stay on balance and score at the rim or use the contact to get to the free throw line.

The soon to be sophomore class in Southern California is shaping up to be a strong group of prospects at each position. We developed a list of 77 freshmen – soon to be sophomores – who should be on the radar of college coaches as they ascend through the high school ranks.
