We dive into the positional rankings. We finish off the rankings with the power forwards and centers for the freshman class. Including three of the top players in the class, who look like they will battle for the top spot for the next few years. All three bring different attributes to the game and all three could be highly coveted.
The next tier under them are no slouches and will be dominating the AIA or Prep world sooner rather than later. Razin Smith Jr Razin Smith Jr 6'5" | PF The Gregory School | 2027 State AZ already won a 1A Ring carrying his team to the Chip.
Here are the top-8 PF/C’s in the 2027 class: (An impressive group)
Darius Wabbington Darius Wabbington 6'10" | C Sunnyslope | 2027 State AZ Sunnyslope
#1A ranked in the class slightly edges out Osaruyi and Porras. He has incredible skill with a strong base and long arms. He is skilled out to the three point line but then uses his girth to work down low with advanced footwork with hook shots and post work. He rebounds with his strong hands and is a good passer. He was trying out for Team USA during the Final-4 weekend.
Paul Osaruyi Paul Osaruyi 6'10" | PF Canyon International Academy | 2027 State AZ Canyon International Academy
#1B ranked is wildly athletic and one of the rare top of the box type of athletes. He rebounds, blocks shots at a high level and can score from all levels. He works best from elbow and in but can extend out and shoot the three. He can rip thru and jump over defenders essentially to grab rebounds and score on put backs.
Adrien Isaac Porras Adrien Isaac Porras 6'11" | C Hillcrest Prep | 2027 State AZ Hillcrest Prep
#1C ranked is the tallest and one of the longest in the West Coast. He has plus athleticism with easy bounce above the rim and comes with skill. The lefty can step out and shoot the three and from mid-range. He takes very few strides to get to the basket and is oozing with upside.
Razin Smith Jr Razin Smith Jr 6'5" | PF The Gregory School | 2027 State AZ The Gregory School
The top player out of Tucson won the 1A Chip and he led the way with his strength, size, IQ and skill. He can shoot the three and loves the mid-range jumper. He uses his big hands to catch tough passes and goes to work in the paint with advanced post footwork and counter moves. He will rebound and block shots. If he makes a growth spurt like we think, watch out.
Chris Brown Chris Brown 6'10" | C Dream City Christian | 2027 State AZ Dream City Christian
A massive post player with a strong base and very long arms. He unfortunately missed a lot of the season with a knee injury but he has skill, obvious size and upside to warrant him the high rankings once he comes back healthy for the top-tier prep team.
Maddox Lazor Maddox Lazor 6'7" | PF Casteel | 2027 State AZ Casteel (Pictured)
A highly skilled power forward who comes with a feel for the game and athleticism. He can dribble drive to the basket with a nice handle and can shoot it from mid to the three. He will block shots and rebound well inside.
Milton Phinnessee Milton Phinnessee 6'7" | C North Canyon | 2027 State AZ North Canyon
A good sized post player is a defensive menace. He rebounds in and out of his area and makes his money on blocking or altering many shots per game. He is a fluid runner and will score around the basket with put backs, layups and dunks with his strong hands.
Adam Medina Adam Medina 6'5" | PF Williams Field | 2027 State AZ Williams Field
A skilled power forward comes with a cerebral game to make plays, defend and score. He has a plus wingspan to rebound and block shots and is unique to consistently find teammates for dimes. He can step out and shoot the three, fall away from his defenders or euro down the lane in traffic for a bucket. If he can keep stretching out, he will be even tougher to defend against in the East Valley.
