I only saw Mallernee play one time this winter but he made it worth it with a career-high 53 points against my high school alma mater. One of the elite shooters in central Ohio, Mallernee won Licking County League player of the year for a second consecutive season. With his size and shooting ability, Mallernee should be high on NAIA and Division III recruiting boards. Mallernee also took a Division II visit in the fall to Thomas More. A big riser thanks to another productive season for a solid Johnstown Northridge squad, Mallernee is one of the more under the radar players from Ohio’s 2024 class.
A huge performance at the state tournament against Ottawa Glandorf showed the improvements Abrams made during his senior season. An impressive athlete who uses his quick twitch athleticism plus length to disrupt ball handlers and also knock down shots from the perimeter. Passing 1,000 points earlier this season, Abrams has been a consistent contributor for the Warriors the past few years. I’ll be curious to see which level Abrams ends up at, he could be an option at Division II, III, NAIA or JUCO programs.
A player who battled injuries his senior season to fight back and get named to all-Ohio in Division I as well as the academic all-Ohio team. Also competing on the track and field team this spring, this shows the toughness that Turay will bring to Lake Erie College next season. A versatile wing who does a little bit of everything on the court, Turay is a solid utility option as Lake Erie looks to build themselves up in the GMAC.
Another player who stood out at the state tournament, Lantz and Shelby had a great run to win the Division II NW region. Lantz, who recently received his first offer from nearby Ashland University, is an explosive athlete who excels in transition. At the high school level, Lantz was relied upon to create offense and be a secondary scoring option next to Wright State commit Alex Bruskotter Alex Bruskotter 6’7″ | PF Shelby | 2024 State #316 Nation OH . I expect Lantz to be even more impactful as a defender at the college level when his offensive scoring load decreases. A lot of long term upside with a player as athletic as Lantz who has already shown the ability to produce in big games. A name to watch from Ohio’s 2024 class.
Similar to Turay, Dickerson impacts the game in a variety of ways on both ends of the court. A solid athlete from the wing who plays hard, guards well on the ball and scores it in transition. Dickerson ended a great high school career as one of the top players in the TAAC this season. Amani averaged 20 PPG on the season and shot it efficiently from all areas of the court. Holding offers from Capital, Heidelberg and Lourdes, Dickerson has a variety of options to choose from at the next level.
