We are in the thick of Spring Basketball season, with several AAU teams having already participated in multiple events. This weekend Las Vegas is the epicenter of youth basketball as several tournaments dot the landscape of the city, providing showcase opportunities for players. While making your list of tournament stops, here’s a look at some players you’re going to want to check out this weekend.
Abbitan is a shooter, scorer that has developed into a playmaker. Runs with a good Prominent Elite squad that doesn’t shy from competition. His size and playmaking make him an intriguing player to watch this weekend.
Highlights
I’m not 100% sure “Chef” plays during the Spring, but I need to find him. The hybrid forward is applauded for his strength, however he has developed his skills. The physical forward made 20 threes during the high school season. Showcasing that side makes him a player to watch.
Highlights
Hutchinson is a player that will be on a lot of coaches boards this Grassroots season. He’s been productive for three years at the high school level, while holding his own against good competition on the AAU scene. His athleticism and versatiltiy make him a player to watch.
Perhaps no player has as much emphasis put on the Grassroots season as Knoll. Typecast, appropriately so as the ultimate glue guy. The almost 6’5 wing is ready to showcase other areas of his game. He’s a knock down shooter, with the ability to make 3 + three’s in a game. Small caveat, eager to see how his defensive IQ is applied during less structured AAU contest.
Judkins is must see TV. The PG has big time wiggle and scoring ability. He’s a walking mixtape and his ability to combine production with entertainment make him a player to watch.
It was Grassroots season when I first realized Daniel’s potential. He’s been a part of a lot of winning at Losee and his traits really shine during AAU. His speed, power and defensive ability make him a player to watch.
Gomez had a strong year against 5A competition. Really looking to evaluate his physical growth, as the wing could develop into a player with good positional size. His ability to dribble, pass and shoot effectively in a 6’4 – 6’5 frame, make him a player to watch.
This feels like a breakout summer type of season for Reed. He oozes potential in a long 6’6 frame. He has a motor and the ability to impact both sides of the floor. The long fluid, freshman is a player to watch.
Wall should be coming into Grassroots compeition on a high, after helping Sierra Vista take home the 4A crown. Make no mistake he was a contributor. Now the talented guard gets to showcase the lessons he’s learned on the grassroots stage. His scoring versatility makes him a player to watch.
