Within the ranks of newcomers and rankings risers, the 2A all-state team was well represented. Six members of the class of 2025 garnered all-state honors. In this rankings review, we will discuss who those players were that made the team and discuss their position within the latest rankings release.
Christopher Cenac Christopher Cenac 6'9" | SF Isidore Newman | 2025 State #54 Nation LA (6’9″ | Newman) – The new #1 player in the state is coming off a Most Outstanding Player performance in the Division IV Select championships. Even though he was named to the all-state 2nd team, Cenac is a well-rounded big man who can control the paint on offense and defense. He is long and athletic while possessing good form from the mid-range. Chris is hard to keep off the boards and has a high level motor. He is one of the country’s best in this class.
Lantavious Murphy Lantavious Murphy 6'3" | SG Rayville | 2025 State LA (6’3″ | Rayville) – Murphy was an honorable mention selection by the Louisiana sportswriters. However, there may not be a better all-around basketball player in the Boot. Murphy was responsible for facilitating the offense, being one of Rayville’s top rebounders, and defending the other team’s best player. All of this while scoring double digits. He is the 10th ranked player in his class. To be honest, he is probably higher than that.
Ronald Strong (6’2″ | Calvary Baptist) – When it comes to shooting, Strong is one of the top five shooters in the state. Not many players rival his accuracy from deep, especially in the corners. He can go on streaks by himself during games which push small leads into big ones. Strong is lethal from deep distances and it is best if defenses guard him all over the floor. If they lose him, it’s over. (Top 35 player)
A.J. Berry (5’10” | Pickering) – Berry is one of the better small guards in the state. He is an all-around basketball player who does everything his team needs to win. His state statistics say he averaged a triple double this season and that is quite possible. Berry is a quick guard who can get to the rim. He also rebounds the ball like a power forward. For a guard of his size, he handles major business on the hardwood. (Top 70 player)
Sharmal Booker Sharmal Booker 6'1" | CG Mansfield | 2025 State LA (6’2″ | Mansfield) – Booker had a coming out party this season for the Wolverines. He got a chance to have the ball in his hands consistently and that turned out great for Mansfield. Booker led the team in scoring and was one of the team’s assist leaders. His ability to shoot the ball from deep spotting up and off the dribble made him a difficult handle for some teams. He may be a top 70 player now; however, I look for him to improve his status this summer.
Hayden Brister Hayden Brister 6'0" | PG Rosepine | 2025 State LA (6’0″ | Rosepine) – The Rosepine quarterback proved during the season that he can rock out on the hardwood as well. He is a good shooter from the outside who made defenses pay for leaving him alone. Brister also has the ability to jump into passing lanes and make teams pay for turning the ball over. His offensive and defensive play will definitely help his ranking climb this summer.
These 2A all-state players in this 2025 class are definitely some players to watch out for. As we review the other classifications, I am sure that the 2025 class will leave an undeniable mark on each all-state team.
