Continue ReadingSectional week is in full swing and we at Prep Hoops Indiana have been able to cover A LOT of action as the week has went on. With all the action from this exciting sectional week, there were a ton a of great performances from our in-state prospects that really showed the talent they have. For myself, I was able to get out and watch games from Sectionals 8, 9, and 10. Below are my standouts from Sectional Week Part 1. Still two more days of Sectional action!
While Zionsville as a whole really struggled against the pressure on both ends of the floor from Noblesville, junior wing Drew Snively Drew Snively 6’4″ | SG Zionsville | 2025 State IN was a lone bright spot for the Eagles. On Tuesday’s Sectional game vs Noblesville, Snively finished with 18 points and was hitting from multiple spots on the floor. He would get caught up in traffic at times but when he he was able to get to the basket, he was real solid. Ending up fouling out, but was easily the best player on the floor for Zionsville.
When it comes to best long-term prospects in Sectional 8, Evan Harrell Evan Harrell 6’8″ | PF Carmel | 2026 State IN is one of those players. While his lack of strength and overall frame is a limitation for him right now, his length gives him a major advantage and he was able to make some plays around the rim in the loss vs Fishers last Tuesday. Thought he was also much more aggressive than what I had seen in the past battling for boards on both ends and giving the Greyhounds some second chance points. There is a lot to really like on the potential of Harrell has he continues to evolve his game.
Highlights
While Carmel mostly stayed around a 3-possesion gap vs Fishers last week in the Sectional 8 opener, Couto always seemed to be the player that would help lead the charge of any type of comeback the Greyhounds would have. He was ultra aggressive at making plays on the ball and being a floor general when things would get difficult for Carmel. Made a few big shots throughout the game and thought he was one of the tougher defenders for the Greyhounds. Expect him to get better this offseason and be ready for a big senior year next season.
This was a performance that without question solidified Damien King Damien King 6’4″ | SF Anderson | 2025 State IN as one of the top overall players in the state. Just straight up, this guy was a bucket getter especially behind the arc where he made multiple threes including 5 of them all in the first half and a few more in the second. With his combination of size and power, King is a real versatile players on both ends of the floor and the way he was shooting the ball, he looks to be a proven shot-maker now. He finished with 24 points and 8 rebounds in the close loss to Greenfield-Central last week in the first round of Sectional 9.
Javon Warfield Javon Warfield 6'2" | SG Anderson | 2025 IN (Anderson, 2025, 6’4, G) – If Damien King Damien King 6'4" | SF Anderson | 2025 State IN was not the MVP for Anderson in their close loss to Greenfield-Central last week, then Javon Warfield Javon Warfield 6'2" | SG Anderson | 2025 IN is. To put things plain and simple, Warfield was making a lot of plays on the floor on both ends. Real long, athletic guard that can can make an impact around the rim due to his skillset. Like his ability to defend multiple spots and and use his his body and agility to score around the contact. Really high motor, as well. Very under-the-radar player in the state.
Even though Richmond was stunned by Muncie Central and went home early in Sectional 9, Cedric Horton Cedric Horton 6’4″ | SG Richmond | 2025 State #321 Nation IN continued to show why he is one of the best long-term prospects in the in-state 2025 class. He finished with a team-high 24 points and the thing that instantly stood out to me was his contoured improvement of his jumper and ability to create off the dribble. Of course, Horton was still excellent getting to the rim and finishing above it with his speed, explosiveness, and high athletic ability. Horton is getting better and better and could be a breakout player this summer.
Highlights
Demarkis Cole – (Muncie Central, 2024, 6’1. G) – The entire Muncie Central team gets credit for their upset win over Richmond last week, but a lot of the credit can go to the senior guard Demarkis Cole. Cole, who is an under-the-radar player in the state, finished with a game-high in the game 24 points. Cole just seemed to hit big shot after big shot and when there were times where it looked like Richmond was going to figure out a way to get this one done, Cole was there to make the much needed play. He has multiple threes and made a lot of good plays on the drive. Great showing here by the 6’1 senior guard.
