Kyle dominated in all facets of the game on Wednesday, leading Washburn to a section quarterfinal victory. He is pretty much unstoppable when he is connecting with shots from the perimeter, being so versatile on the offensive end. He was using the dribble to create space for mid-range jumpers and also knocked down a couple threes off the catch. He was a force inside on both sides of the ball, converting on finishes inside through contact and altering opponent’s shots on defense. Jorgensen and the Millers have all the right pieces to make a deep playoff run.
Cooper has had phenomenal performances in both of the games I have seen this season. He has a consistent shot from the outside, knocking down triples off the catch or when pulling up off the dribble. He is a steady ball handler, never looking sped up or rattled when faced with full-court pressure. He is also an excellent defender, matching up with Southwest’s best scorer for the majority of the game. Carlson is the perfect kind of player to surround Jorgensen with and will need to stack great performances to make a state tournament push.

Matt Drake caught fire in Lakeville North’s section quarterfinal win. The senior guard connected with five threes, finishing the game with 15 points. He is so hard to keep up with, as he does so much off-ball movement to free himself for open looks. A couple of his makes came off of hand-offs from a Panther forward where Drake could get his feet under him and drill a shot from beyond the arc in a flash. He is also one of the most trustworthy ball handlers in the state, conducting his team’s offense all season.
Highlights
Liam left it all out on the floor on Wednesday, flying around and making plays all game. The Southwest offense completely revolved around him and he was forced to have the ball in his hands for most of the game. He scored a game-high 28 points and is fearless when attacking the basket. He was converting on super tough finishes and was drawing fouls to get to the line at a high rate. The senior guard was knocking down contested looks from the perimeter as well. Farniok has left his legacy at Minneapolis Southwest and will be headed to St. John’s next season.
Highlights
Jack did not have to do a whole lot in Lakeville North’s blowout win in the section quarterfinals. The Wisconsin commit made two of his three attempts from beyond the arc and was getting to the basket with ease. He can create looks for himself with minimal dribbles to gain some separation from a defender. He finished the win with 15 points. Robison and the Panthers have unfinished business at the state tournament and will have to battle their way out of a tough section 1AAAA.
In a tough loss, Evan was a bright spot for New Prague. The 6’5” wing is fun to watch with the ball in his hands, as he can go to work in isolation to get a score. He has a super quick release on his shot and was giving the defense no time to close out on him in the catch-and-shoot. He can also put the ball on the floor and connect with tough contested looks off the dribble. This season was Weichert’s second time leading the Trojans in scoring and he will likely have a third next winter.
