Continue ReadingAn athletic 6-6/6-7 forward, Watters put up 23 points on 10-16 shooting (1-3 3P, 2-5 FT) to go with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, and a block in the Sabers loss to Mount Vernon last Monday. He’s a mobile big man with good footwork and soft touch around the rim with either hand. He has a few go-to moves on the block, and is developing counter moves to go with them. The most encouraging part of his performance, however, was his willingness to step out and stretch the floor. The form on his jumper looks smooth, with a high release and good rotation. If he’s able to add a bit of consistent range and become even a 34-35% 3-point shooter, it will be huge for his development.
Watkins was great in the Falcons’ win over West Branch in the district final, in complete command of the game on the offensive end of the floor. He had 19 points on 7-12 shooting (3-5 3P, 2-2 FT), 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. He’s a quick guard who can create off the dribble for himself and his teammates, and he has a pure stroke from deep. He sees the floor extremely well and is a talented playmaker who can thread the needle. He plays well in ball screen actions, as he can turn the corner and get to the rim, find the roll/pop man, or pull up and knock down jumpers with ease.
Highlights
Hoard is a big-bodied wing oozing with confidence and he plays with a bit of swagger, which was huge for the underdog Chiefs in their win over Solon. He had 13 points on 4-9 shooting (2-7 3P, 3-4 FT), 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. He has good size and a quick release off the catch.
Highlights
One of the top 2025s in the state, Kern concluded a fantastic junior year with 22 points on 6-13 shooting (0-5 3P, 10-12 FT), 9 rebounds, and a block in the Lions’ loss to North Scott. He’s one of the most skilled offensive players in the state with his ability to stretch the floor, score on the block, create his own looks, and find open teammates. At 6-8, he has a pure stroke, and while he didn’t make any 3s against the Lancers, we know he’s a high-level shooter. What impressed the most against North Scott was his relentless in attacking the rim, which led to the double-digit free-throw attempts.
A quick guard with a great first step, Matson was able to get to the rim against North Scott and finish creatively, from difficult angles, on multiple occasions. He’s a good ball-handler and skilled scorer and playmaker in the backcourt who can also be a solid on-ball defender. He had 14 points on 6-13 shooting (0-3 3P, 2-2 FT) in the loss to North Scott.
