These guys don’t get as much love as older, more established contributors at the HS level, but are showing why they’ll be household names soon enough. Check out five guys that have impressed from the Triad area and beyond in the 252, take a read below to learn more about their season-long stats and play styles.
Loftin is the second leading freshman scorer in the entire state, putting in 24.3 PPG and 5.3 APG already. His point guard abilities are apparent, where he’s able to play with vision and composure, averaging almost 5 assists for every turnover. He can shoot it from deep too, knocking down 40 threes so far at a 39% clip. His offensive game is already so refined and mature, we may be looking at another stud point guard to lead his class.
Matthewson has been an integral part to Martin County’s success, as he leads the team in scoring and rebounding. His numbers of 17.5 PPG and 6.5 RPG are outstanding for a freshman, and a lot of his advanced performances for his age comes from his athleticism. His 6’3, 200 pound frame allows him to attack older guys as well as excel on the gridiron, where he already holds multiple D1 offers. He’s a name to watch as he continues to blossom into a scorer, defender, and rebounder for the Knights.

Evans has been making strides so far as a freshman who can act as a complementary scorer as well as getting hot and taking over a game. His efficiency has been something to be impressed with so far, shooting 60% from the field and an astonishing 63% from deep on almost two makes per game. The off ball guard is thin, twitchy, and athletic which makes him very able to get to his own spots and create on his terms, not the defenders.

Jones has been a volume shot maker for Arendell Parrott so far this season, hitting threes and being able to attack the paint constantly. He’s been up and down so far, having games where he scores 20+ points and other games where he only scores in single digits. However, this is quite normal for a freshman, finding your stride and when he’s been one of the focal points of his teams, the defenses zeroing in on him on the scouting report. He’ll be a contributor for a while in Kinston.
Rosser is one of the more physical, developed post prospects in the state so far, standing at a firm 6’7 and logging quality minutes and contributions for Northern Nash already. He’s averaging 9.6 PPG and 4.7 RPG, and able to stretch the floor, making 27 threes over the course of the year.
