My definition for a pivotal player is someone of crucial importance in relation to the success of the team itself, players who carry a heavy workload but can still get it done and make everyone around them better.
Olson has been having such an amazing season, amassing over 40 points in a game multiple times this season. He broke the school record for most points in a game, then did it again. He has the most points in Mark Morris history and just knows how to put the ball in the bucket. There has been many games where he scores more than half the teams points and contributes more off of assists to teammates. He’s a huge asset for the squad, who could struggle if Olson struggles, but he has yet to show that he can’t handle the pressure of carrying the team.
Lynden is always a top team in the 2A classification and having won back ton back state titles, they are likely a big favorite going into postseason play. Anthony finds his spots so smoothly. He knows where he can efficiently hit shots and is just lights out from mid-range. His 6’4″ length helps him get by defenders on the drive and finish at a high level. He’s won back to back state tournament MVP’s and is a top 3 scoring leader in the history of Lynden basketball, just that alone shows how important he is to this team.
It’s very well known that Davis is a top talent within the entire state of Washington. He’s a player who can easily drop 40/10/10 on any given night. He has fantastic length and can rise above most defenders on his jumper. Anacortes as a whole is a team that has athletes on the roster but for most of them, basketball is a secondary sport, which is the only thing that could hurt the team. Davis has shown the ability to carry the team on his back with ease and I expect the same thing to happen.
Martin’s game has been evolving in such a big way each and every year. Over the off-season he made his game more well rounded by elevating his perimeter game and becoming more athletic. He’s a 6’6″ wing who scores at all 3 levels at a high level and is a big time difference maker for his squad. Annie Wright is a great team with a ton of talent, but if Kaupanger struggles to hit shots, I’m not sure how deep they will go.
