Lots of unheralded guys had big time performances that gave their schools key victories last week, and read along for five of those guys we highlighted.
Dwight Anderson
Dwight Anderson
Anderson came up huge for his team with a 31 point, 13 rebound double double in a win over Roxboro Community on Friday night, continuing to assert Voyager’s status as top dogs in their conference. They haven’t lost in 2024, and much of that has to do with Anderson, a strong rebounding presence and interior finisher who can hardly be stopped when he gets his feel and touch going early in games. He’s a double double threat night in and out, posting two of them last week alone.
James is continuing to show why he’s the next big thing from Holly Springs, putting up 28 in a win over Middle Creek, and a 24 point 10 rebound double double over Green Hope. He’s been outstanding as a perimeter scorer so far this season, shooting 42% from deep and continuing to make teams pay when they try to play his driving ability instead of his shooting. He is blossoming into a legitimate D1 prospect in front of our eyes, and should continue to get better and better as the season finishes.
Highlights
Reyes was huge for Garner in a big time televised win over Clayton on Friday, scoring 19 points and racking up POTG honors. He also had 15 pts, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in a win over Willow Spring last week as well. He’s a slithery finisher who can weave through traffic and break down defenders in order to get to the cup, and looks fluid while doing so. Also a competent shooter on the move and off the dribble that can make big shots when his team needs it.
Asante Martin
Asante Martin
Martin has continued to stay hot for an Owen team that needs him to continue producing to compete at a high level. He had 18 and 19 as his team split two games last week, knocking down four threes in both games. He’s a pretty good shooter who gets them up in volume, and looks to create for others as he gets downhill instead of consistently attacking the rim. Able to score in bunches when other teams give him space and time to operate. Should be a WNC guy to monitor in the 2026 class.
AJ Adams
AJ Adams
Adams is a Davidson football commit, but continues to carry his Crest group on his back as they look to make noise in the playoffs. He had 16 in a close loss to Huss, and then 26 in a big win over conference rival Ashbrook. He’s a put his head down, drive right through you kind of guy, with real lower body strength as well as some agility. However, he’s shown he can create in spurts for his teammate, notching 12 assists over the two game stretch. He’s someone who could be key to a Cinderella run in the playoffs.
