Samartine Hill came off the bench to make an impact late in the 4Q, but senior Zach Smith (9p 4r 1s) and freshman James Westervelt (5p 6r 4a 3s) closed it out for the Patriots 80-69.
John Carroll will host Boys’ Latin tomorrow at 7pm, Mount Carmel will face off with St.Frances for a big road game tomorrow at 7pm.
The burst and finishing craft always stand out for Dixon and that was no different today. The senior guard had a huge impact on the game with 22p 5a 4r 2s, doing a much better job this season of scoring from all 3 levels while seeing the floor and creating easy looks for teammates. Fingers crossed that Mt. Carmel can put together an extended postseason run in the MIAA and BCL playoffs to get Dixon more looks from college coaches.
Chinnia-Falline continues to impress with his ability to score from the perimeter but he is starting to fill out the stat sheet on a nightly basis, finishing with 22p 4a 2r 1b 1s in the win. He makes defenses pay for going under screens but has a tight enough handle and wiggle to duck under defensive closeouts and get to the paint to score. As his handle continues to progress I expect to see him find teammates more often off the bounce and show college coaches how well-rounded of a prospect he can be.
Battle continues to showcase one of the most well-rounded skillsets in the area, impacting at both ends of the floor consistently to fill up the stat sheet. Battle possesses the +wingspan, positional size and mobility that college coaches crave in the modern game, projecting him very well as a 3+D wing at the next level that makes a ton of winning plays for his team. The junior wing finished with 20p 8r 4s 4a in the win.
Able continues to impress as an incredibly-productive wing that stretches the floor with sweet perimeter shooting and enough strength to finish off of post-ups or putbacks in the paint. He has the ball skills to create space for his shot and takes great shots–especially for a prospect this young. As he adds more athleticism and lateral movement skills on the defensive end of the floor, he safely projects as a productive MM wing. Able finished with 19p 3r 2a 3s in the win
James Westervelt
James Westervelt
Westervelt is earning consistent minutes in a stacked rotation as a freshman and you can see why. He does all of the little things that add up to winning– moving well off the ball, securing crucial rebounds at both ends of the floor, quickly executing the right passing read, hitting open shots– all at really good positional size (6’6). He plays within himself and excels in his off-ball role, contributing across the board to fill the gaps for his team. As he adds more ball skills and wiggle, I expect his name to gather steam as one of the most well-rounded prospects in his class. The freshman wing finished with 5p 6r 4a 3s for John Carroll in the win
Tatum has always excelled as a downhill driver but has added some vertical pop as well as consistent outside shooting to his bag. The explosive guard hit several tough shots from the perimeter, finished with an impressive 1-handed tomahawk in transition to punctuate a steal, and mixed it up a bit defensively in the loss. The junior combo guard finished with 15p 2a on 56% shooting from the floor.
Hill gave Mt. Carmel some good minutes down the stretch as a distributor and lightning-quick driver on the ball. The freshman floor general leverages his size and quickness to get past his matchup and into the teeth of the defense before making the right passing or scoring read. Finishing with a 10p 3a 3s 2r 1b statline in less than 15 minutes of play only underlines the value of this young point guard prospect as a name to watch moving forward.
