Blazers Dominate Cardinals To Earn 1 Seed

Following Greer Middle College's 61-56 win over Landrum on Tuesday Night, a tiebreaker game was needed to determine who would be the #1 Seed from Class AA Region 1. The Blazers are still without Star Guard and Spartanburg Methodist College Commit [player_tooltip player_id='1160580' first='Musa' last='Muriithi'] with a Knee Injury. In his absence, Junior [player_tooltip player_id='2346058' first='Braylen' last='Silver'] stepped up big time on Thursday Night. He hit two 3s in the opening quarter and then two more in the first 40 seconds of the second quarter to extend the Blazer lead to double digits. Landrum struggled to get into a rhythm on the offensive end in the early stages, turning the ball over on 7 of their first 9 possessions with a 0-2 free throw trip mixed in. Greer Middle College went with a non-traditional yet effective defense: a Box-and-One. Titus Shenton was the chaser on [player_tooltip player_id='1316122' first='Franklin' last='Davis'], and he held Davis to just 4 points on 2-10 shooting. Coach Jamar Armstrong's game plan was perfect on both ends, but also credit the players for executing. Shenton also had success making plays on offense, scoring 13 points and adding 9 assists. Big man [player_tooltip player_id='1127746' first='Jack' last='Pfister'] started to have a bigger impact as the game went on, getting multiple looks of offensive rebounds and from the free throw line. Landrum was better in the second half, but just as it seemed a comeback was possible, CB Bowser had a euro-step layup as time expired in the third quarter and a steal and layup off the inbound pass to start the fourth quarter. That put the Blazers up 20, a lead big enough for them to hold on for eight minutes and seal the 1 Seed in Region 1.
