These are the top combo guards in our freshman rankings update, not including players who were in the top 10.
One of the highest scoring guards in the class, Keathley has been playing the role of go to scorer for Prestonsburg for two years and will be relied on to do everything for the Blackcats for his entire career. Braxton is another player who will be easier to get a good evaluation on in AAU than in high school when he should have more talent around him and be able to be more of a playmaker than a pure scorer.
Highlights
Martin is a role player for a McCracken program that is in reload mode. While he probably hasn’t had the impact in his freshman season that he was hoping for, Jay projects to be a very good high school player with potential to be a top player in the first region for multiple years.
Helton is another 2027 who will have a much bigger role in the future while spending his freshman season playing predominantly JV and freshman games. Colton is a big guard who has a high IQ and could ultimately project as a big point guard.

You can almost copy and paste what was said about Helton and say the same about Lane Hord Lane Hord 6’1″ | CG Taylor County | 2027 State KY . Lane is on a Taylor County squad that is heavy with Juniors and Seniors. Hord is doing the best to maximize his time on the floor and will have a big season of AAU ahead where he should have opportunities to prove himself against his peers.
Looking at it now, Neel should be higher up this list. Leading a very young Russell team in scoring at 15 points per game, Elijah is already a top 10 or so player in the 16th region and will have opportunities to impress this spring and summer, depending on where he plays AAU. Definitely a player to track, moving forward.
