Expert Analysis

Colton checks a lot of boxes as a prospect and looks like he could be a breakout guy this winter, depending on where he enrolls. Helton has a very high skill level and a natural basketball IQ that comes from growing up in the gym as his parents are both coaches. With his size and ability to play on or off the ball, Helton should be a mismatch for most opposing teams. Don’t be surprised if he has a strong Junior season and sees his stock go up this winter.

A talented player who did a lot for Scott County last season, Helton is a volume scorer who can heat up in a hurry. Colton is also a good rebounder for his size and has scholarship level potential down the line. He could be one of the most impactful transfers next season.

Colton led Scott County in most statistical categories as a Sophomore and has some physical tools and skill level that will catch your eye. Path forward, Helton is going to be an interesting prospect to track for several reasons. Colton has been coached by his parents at both the high school and AAU levels for the last 2 years. I’d be interested to see how he performs with a different voice on the sidelines. When I’ve seen Helton in camp settings, he tends to rise with the level of his competition. He’s one of the biggest sleepers in this class because his potential is pretty high up there.

Helton had an up and down season with a few really big scoring games. Colton has good positional size and a high IQ. If he can improve his overall scoring efficiency, Helton can establish himself as a top guard in the class, long term.

Helton is likely to have a rather big role for Scott County as a freshman. In multiple viewings, Colton has been a solid player who doesn’t force offense and knows how to hunt his shot when he’s playing off the ball. It will be interesting to see what his role will be but Colton could be a top 2027 in the 11th region.
