Expert Analysis
Steve Quattrocchi | Prep Hoops Scout
Rutledge is part of a Scott County team that is really struggling to string together wins this season but Reed looks like he could be a big part of future success. Reed is still growing and filling out but his shot mechanics are pure. Right now Rutledge is primarily a freshman and JV player but he’s going to have a chance to step into a starting role for the Cardinals next season.

Reed is clearly more of a point guard than most on this list as he didn’t force offense. He preferred to facilitate and find open teammates. When he did shoot, they were open shots and usually went in. He’s got a smooth jumper with easily repeatable mechanics.

Reed played with pace and IQ very well as a primary point guard. He is an accurate shooter and facilitator that often gets to the middle to do either option. He makes smart plays as a passer, good at drawing defenders to find kick out passes to the wing. He is an unselfish scorer, knowing when to get others involved as well as when to turn it on and attack. He shoots with a good touch and could be an off the dribble shooting threat if guarded loosely.

Rutledge has high-level court vision and understanding of the point guard position. Teams were giving him a large amount of defensive attention by trapping and getting the ball out of his hands, because they knew his team goes as he goes. They wanted someone else to beat them, because not only is he an elite distributor, he has a smooth and accurate jumper as well.

What Reed Rutledge brings to the table is a calm play-style, nice handle, and a whole lot of crafty game-play. Rutledge understands situations and he is good at leading his team in whatever they are trying to accomplish. If the defense doesn’t pick him up in the full court, he can make his way to the bucket for an easy finish. If they play off of him on the three point line, he has a beautiful shooting stroke. All in all, he showed poise this weekend whenever his team took the floor and it was note-worthy.
