These notes are from day one of the two-day tournament that ended with the 5th-ranked 3A Hawks taking on the top-ranked 1A Lyncs in an overtime battle with the Lyncs holding on to stay undefeated.
We already looked at some of the Standout Guards from the event, and now it’s time to check out the standout forwards with top performers, new names, and players to watch.
Top Performers
Kayden Stuit Kayden Stuit 6'4" | PF Lynden Christian | 2024 State WA | 2024 | Lynden Christian
Stuit was at it again against North Creek, dominating the glass and playing bully ball in the post. He was too big and strong but also worked angles with drop steps and spins to get defenders on his back and get to the rim. He also got a couple of big bangouts, one coming on the end of a nice alley-oop from Dawson Bouma Dawson Bouma 6'0" | SG Lynden Christian | 2024 State WA .
Jeremiah Wright Jeremiah Wright 6'6" | PF Lynden Christian | 2024 State WA | 2024 | Lynden Christian
Wright had a slow start to the game but finally started to get some touches near the hoop in the second quarter, finishing with buckets at the cup and a nice turnaround from just off the block. He continued to fight inside, converting tough buckets and working his way to the line.
Carter Cohen Carter Cohen 6'8" | SF North Creek | 2026 State WA | 2026 | North Creek
Cohen is 6-foot-9 and played the part at the rim with some great rim defense early on. He set the tone early, was mobile across the paint and even showed some defending skills on the perimeter. He’s a big, but he has the athleticism and stroke to develop into a factor from all over. He nailed some nice midrange jumpers off the catch and the dribble, and showed a real versatile approach to the game.
Zaveon Jones Zaveon Jones 6'2" | SF Mountlake Terrace | 2024 State WA | 2024 | Mountlake Terrace
Jones didn’t start their game against Skyline but as soon as he came in the game he went to work inside. He was just ripping through outstretched hands and getting to the hoop. Skyline isn’t the biggest team and Jones was able to go to work and draw fouls to have an efficient night in the paint.
Alex Mccleery Brown Alex Mccleery Brown 6'3" | SF Seattle Academy | 2024 State WA | 2024 | Seattle Academy
He had the biggest impact for the Cardinals in their game against Inglemoor and even though he didn’t often have the size advantage down low, they looked to feed him quite often in the post. He used pivots, fakes, and adjusted his body to create space to finish inside over bigger guys. He also put in some good work from the perimeter with strong rips baseline and made a few shots from behind the arc too. He turned it on after the first quarter and was making plays all over the court.
New Names & Players to Watch
Kieran Clasen Kieran Clasen 6'8" | PF Inglemoor | 2024 State WA | 2024 | Inglemoor
Clasen is a long forward and he was active all over the paint blocking shots and extending out to alter jumpshots a few feet out of the key. He had the length advantage over Seattle Academy and was pretty disciplined defensively avoiding fouling and rebounding well.
Austin McKay | 2024 | Sehome
McKay operated a lot from the high post and showed if you don’t step up, he can continually knock down open shots at the elbows. He struggled some with his jumper if forced to put the ball on the floor but made some good plays off the dribble later in the game. He’s just 6-foot-3 but is a strong kid and was pretty effective on the glass with some tough rebounds and put-backs in the paint.
Carson Morningstar Carson Morningstar 6'5" | PF Prairie | 2026 State WA | 2026 | Prairie
The big man started out real solid inside, understanding how to get big in the post and create space for entry passes. He is still learning how to stay big with some finishing moves but has multiple moves he’s working on. The most impressive thing he showed was his passing out of the post and short corner. He drew a lot of attention inside and recognized the entire defense shifting over to his side when he got the ball and did a great job skipping the ball to the opposite wings to shooters.
Svayjeet Singh Svayjeet Singh 6'4" | SF Mountlake Terrace | 2025 State WA | 2025 | Mountlake Terrace
He’s a really fun defender to watch who can guard inside and outside, guards or forwards. He’s a high-level defender and took the task of guarding one of Skyline’s top scorers Atticus Boba Atticus Boba 6'3" | SG Skyline | 2024 State WA for a time. Boba struggled to his shots for the first portion of the game and Singh’s ability to stay in front and play physical without fouling was a big factor. He also made the most of his touches offensively by dropping in the open shots.
Gabriel Towne Gabriel Towne 6'7" | SF Mountlake Terrace | 2024 State WA | 2024 | Mountlake Terrace
Towne is another Mountlake Terrace forward who came up with big plays defensively. He’s a tall, long kid who got fingers on multiple shot attempts, and got some bigger blocks in the second half. He also made some good reads on his teammate’s shots to get the offensive rebound and put it back up and in, and also followed a few missed layups for tip-ins.
