Then on Friday night, I watched a big-time OCC – Ohio as New Albany got a tough-fought win over Westerville Central, 54-46. This article will cover the Top Guards I saw in these games.
Henderson was the best player on the court majority of this game. I really like the tools this kid has. He is a tall and long guard who knows how to use his length to his advantage. He uses the length well on defense as he has a ton of deflections and helps him with on-ball defense. He also can shoot the ball well. He doesn’t need much space to get it up and gets it off quickly. He was efficient in his shooting. Made multiple threes in the first half. He is really good at operating in small spacing on the court. Uses his one dribble very efficiently to create space for himself. Henderson is a hooper with a high ceiling.
Hartfield is an undersized point guard that can HOOP. This sophomore has a great pace and calmness in the way he plays. Hartfield is a true court general. He is a pass-first point guard who runs Big Walnut offense like he has done it for years. They are one of the top teams in the Central Ohio area this year and a lot of it is thanks to Hatfield. He truly never forces anything. He lets the defense start to worry about his passing and once they forget about him he scores. He is super efficient when he does attack. He finished in double digits and he made it look easy. He has a quick shot. One of the best underclassmen pass-first point guards I’ve seen this year.
Highlights
Miles Jackson Miles Jackson 6’2″ | SG New Albany | 2025 State OH is a winner. He was vital in New Albany’s comeback efforts and ultimate win. He made game-winning plays all game. He is an extremely long wing that is quick. He is really good at making you flip your hips and then attack you. He has a tight handle on the ball. He gets to the rim consistently and made some head-turning layups that created a lot of momentum for his team. He was a really good defender and locked down the guards of Westerville Central when it mattered late in the game.
Johnson is a bucket-getter most truly. This kid scored the opening 12 points for his team and dropped over 20 in Thomas Worthington’s loss on Tuesday night. Johnson has a knack for scoring points. He is not going to impress you with the eye test but he will with his skills. He gets to his spot and makes some tightly contested shots. He elevates high when he shoots the ball which allows him to make these contested shots consistently. He is a volume shooter. He gets all of his points in the half-court from midrange and three-point shooting. He has an unlimited range. He has good length for his size which allows him to be a really good on-ball defender. He poked the ball out of a couple of times which led to easy layups.
