Continue ReadingThis past Saturday I went to two very good games in the NWO area. I watched one of the hottest teams with the most impressive record so far, 7-0, and undefeated Findlay who got the win on the road at St. Mary’s Memorial. Then I drove to Lima Senior to watch a huge out-of-conference game between Reynoldsburg and Lima Senior. Lima picked up a big-time bounce-back win in overtime, 63-62. This article will recap these two games.
Cordonnier had a great performance against St. Mary’s. He showed some real versatility as he was scoring inside and out. He almost outscored the opposing team through 3 quarters with 27 points. He was exposing mismatches all night. They did not have an answer for him. He got the ball in great positions in the post and scored a ton of easy buckets that way. He showed great fundamentals. He has very good footwork in the paint and touch. He has some great size and length. Strong body kid. He is a senior that leads by example on the team. He has a beautiful form and rotation on his jumper. He got everything he wanted all game long.
Highlights
McKinney had the most impact on the game for Reynoldsburg. His defense and length were phenomenal. He caused a ton of turnovers and just disrupted the offense of Lima Senior all night. He had a huge impact on the game in the second quarter which sparked a huge comeback for Reynoldsburg. He contested a ton of shots, blocked shots, and stole the ball a lot led to a ton of easy points for the Raiders. He did not score a ton of points but all of his buckets were efficient. Down the stretch late he started to get aggressive with the ball on offense and was making plays and scoring big-time points. He had 15 points but he made the biggest impact for the Raiders which took them down to the wire.
Highlights
Hutchins was very impressive for Lima Senior last night. He played a different game than most people are used to seeing. Everyone knows the kid is a good shooter but he did most of his damage in the paint. He played like a true forward with a lot of back-to-the-basket points. He had a really good touch around the rim. He made a ton of shots through traffic and with people around him. He was doing this against more athletic players, he killed them with footwork. It was very impressive to watch this part of Hutchins’s game be displayed. He finished with 15 points.
Angstman is a next-level player. He has made some serious improvements from the last time I saw him play. This kid is a PLAYER. He is listed at 6’7 but plays a wing for St. Mary’s and he does it well. He handles the ball well. He has some handling moves to break down the defenders that give him space to attack and get their shot off. He has a very good middle dribble pull-up. He has the next-level size for his position. He is tall, long, and strong. He has some really good form and is just a pure shot. He has a high point of release and arching shot. Makes it very tough to even contest. He has great fundamentals. College coaches, this kid is a SLEEPER that you need to see.
Bowens is a high-profile player with some great athleticism that is usually unmatched. He does more than just that though. He makes winning plays for your team to win. He does a lot of the little things well that result in game-winning plays. He did not lead Reynoldsburg to victory but he brought them back with these plays. He is an excellent rebounder. He gets the ball at the highest point. He is a very efficient finisher with both hands. I was also impressed with the decision-making he had when the ball was in his hands. He made the right play every time. This kid can do a little of it all.
