During the first half I thought the game looked too easy for Rogers, he was that dominant. Controlled the boards, protected the rim to a degree that the other team was afraid to challenge it, and made several baskets going to the hoop strong. I believed it to be one of the better halves of basketball that he has played this year. This allowed Tosa West to jump on the conference leading Germantown club by a large margin of 16 points. In the second half, whether his decision or not, the flow of the game had totally changed. Germantown, to their credit, had crawled back into the contest. Rogers was content with being on the wing during this time period which was just part of the story. Also, in the second half I believe I counted 6 turnovers, which help the opponent keep the air in its lungs. It is great to see a player add skills and improvement to their games, but when the game is getting close go back to what got you success. Overall, Rogers is one of the dominant players in the state and how he goes so goes Tosa West it seems like at times. Count me impressed once again.
Jon O’Neil | 6’10” | C | 2024 | Kaukauna | Wisconsin Blizzard
Stat Line: 17pts, 13 reb, 6 assists, 8-8 field goals, 40 minutes played
The stat line, while pretty good cannot possibly tell the whole story of this tight game against an Appleton East Club that had come to compete. Jon was a force for most of the night having not come out of the overtime game, playing the whole 40 minutes. Late in regulation it was O’Neil who came up huge to send it into the O/T frame. He got a put back basket, off of a missed free throw, with 4 seconds left to tie it up. Then to make sure the game was clinched, in the closing moments he had a block of a shot near the hoop. After the game he gave credit to the coaches for practicing the end of game missed free throw play, and that is a sign of great coaching, but the players have to execute. He did just that.
Joey LaChappel | 6’1″ | PG | 2024 | Appleton East | Wisconsin Playmakers
Stat Line: 43 pts, 7 rebounds, 6 assist, 1 block – 15-28 from the floor, 7-15 3 pointers
Heart. Determination. Competitor. Just a few descriptive words to describe this player and this performance. He would not let his club die and was always attaching the opponent. For the last couple of years, I have been a Joey LaChappel fan, and this performance is not rare. Not that he has to score 40 each night out, it’s the approach to the game that gets me cheering.
Andrew Jensen Andrew Jensen 6'9" | C Kaukauna | 2026 State WI | 6’9″ | W | 2026 | Kaukauna | All Wisconsin
Stat Line: 25pts, 5 rebounds, 4 assist, 2 blocks – 9-12 field goals
Being the leading scorer on the night Jensen was impressive. I like how him, and O’Neil can play side by side. Around the two-and-a-half-minute mark, in the closing moments he had a chase down block that had the opposing fans screaming for a goaltend. It was a pure hustle play that I thought was going to be the play of the game until the O’Neil heroics. I caught myself thinking that Andrew should be a little more aggressive with his outside shoot, because of the opponent sagging off of him late, but hey I shouldn’t get greedy he did score 25pts on 9-12 shooting.
Keegan Van Kauwennberg | | 6’3″ | G | 2025 | Kaukauna
Stat Line: 24pts, 3 rebounds, 6 assist, 8-16 field goals, 5-5 free throws, 40 minutes played
Another prospect that came up huge during the contest and another one that played the whole 40 minutes. Scoring 24 points is pretty impressive and was the third player for Kaukauna that shot very well. 8-16 from the field and then dropping in 3 triples for the game.
Matt Kloskey | 6’4″ | W | 2026 | Wauwatosa West
Stat Line: 20 points, 4 Steals
The sophomore played well on the night scoring most of his points by going hard to the rim. He possesses a few very solid moves inside the lane and off a jump stop that has the opponent over matched at times. Kloskey with his play style, is a prospect that we should keep an eye on for the next couple of years. He is the four player on Tosa West that is averaging double digits in scoring. For now, while Rogers and Hansen are there, he will be a very solid 3rd or 4th option for the team as they head down the stretch of the season.
