Below, we’ll highlight five more high ranking prospects that are new to the region (and our rankings) this year:
Edmead, a New York native, is an explosive lead guard with a lightning quick first step. He has an advanced understanding of how to operate in the screen-and-roll game and does a good job overall of making reads in half-court settings. He’s electric in transition where is speed and court vision really shine. Defensively, he utilizes his physical gifts to defend multiple guard spots and to make an impact on the defensive glass.
McConnell, who came to New England from Virginia, is a high academic prospect that is a vocal presence on the defensive end of the floor. He does a great job as a back-line anchor on defensive both by protecting the rim and cleaning up the glass. Offensively, he’s a solid rim runner and makes it a point to finish with authority around the rim any chance he gets. He has touch out to 15′ and has shown that he’s comfortable putting the ball on the floor for one or two dribbles.
Kamin, a native of Illinois, has made an immediate impact on the wing for Worcester Academy this winter. A big wing who has definite upside as a floor spacer, Kamin does a good job leveraging his shooting and attacking bad closeouts. Defensively, he’s a solid rebounder from the guard position and does a great job of utilizing his IQ to be in the right spots as a help defender where he generates a fair amount of steals and deflections with his length.
Highlights
Huang, who came to St. Paul’s from Michigan, has exploded onto the scene this season. He’s a big time threat from behind the arc, both off the bounce and the catch, and has a high release point that allows him to get his shot off against most defenders. Huang is a threat in the mid-range as he gets into his pull up game off a mix of straight drives and hesitation or dribble combos. He’s a versatile, multi-positional defender that can turn defense into quick offense.
McDonald, originally from Colorado, has been a welcome addition to the Newman School this year. Offensively, he does most of his damage by the rim, but has shown flashes of floor spacing potential when his feet are set. He is a good passer, especially from the high post and at the top of the key. Defensively, he’s capable of moving laterally to guard on the perimeter and does a good job as a weakside shot blocker. He’s an impressive outlet passer who can really kickstart the fast-break off of a defensive rebound.
