We saw some impressive performances during the week and over the weekend in various MLK invitational events. Check out half a dozen top performers from across the public school ranks last week.
Mirikwe had 21 in Chapel Hill’s big time win over Jordan Friday night, and continues to prove why he’s a late blooming guard for college programs to consider next season. He made 3 three pointers, expanding his normal range and showing he can impact the game from multiple levels offensively. Has continued to show why he’s dangerous with his ability to drive the ball and make plays when he gets to the paint/rim. Defensively impactful with his athleticism, only had one steal but made impacts on and off the ball that didn’t show up in the box score.
Williams continues to assert himself as a physical, athletic slasher that is one of the best 2025s in the eastern half of the state. He went for 23 and 27 in his team’s two wins, continually attacking downhill and putting pressure on the rim. His strength on his 6’2 frame is what sets him apart from others, as you can see his football background showing on the basketball floor. Should be a name that local college coaches move on soon.
Sanders was outstanding for North Lincoln last week, as the Knights won both their games last week. He had 28 and 24 in those, showcasing his ability to score in many ways. In the first game, he showcased his perimeter game, knocking down 6 threes, while in the second he attacked the rim and got to the foul line for 11 free throws. It continues to show why he can make an impact at the next level with his varied scoring abilities. Also had 10 assists over the games as he continues to operate as a secondary playmaker in their offense.

Crite has been outstanding all season long for Brevard, and it’s time we give him his props as his team got a big win over Chase HS. It’s not his biggest statistical output of the season, but his 21 point, 14 rebound performance was a key factor in the dominant win. He’s an efficient shot taker and maker who does his damage around the lane and the mid-range areas. He also uses his size and athleticism to outclass people on both ends of the glass, and should still be a force in that part of the game when he gets to college. He will be a massive mover in our next rankings update.
Highlights
Overman recorded the first triple double in school history Friday night, putting up a stat line of 10 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 blocks against Corinth Holders. He’s got elite shot blocking instincts, knowing how to time his jump and put himself in position. His length is also outstanding. He’s a good finisher around the rim, scoring off dumpoffs, rolls and other simple plays, where he does what is asked of him and not too much else. He’s a growing prospect that should be worth monitoring as he heads into the spring and summer.
Highlights
In two blowout wins over Perquimans and Gates County, Chesson went for 24 points, and then had a 15 point 10 rebound double-double. He’s an outlier compared to many in his division/area because of his ability to play above the rim, as well as his shiftiness in the open floor. He’s not the best shooter from the perimeter, but can knock them down if left alone. He’s a great high school player and should continue to lead Washington County to contention in the 1A class.
