There were some awesome individual performances this week, and we want to take an article to highlight those. Check out five players who made impressions on us with their play this week.
Fox is an undisputed candidate for this list as he dropped 50 points in his team’s victory over Southern Wayne last week. He had 8 threes in the performance, and showed why he can be an impact scorer off the ball in a big way at the next level. He’s super shifty and unpredictable, with good handles and an ability to change speeds and pace with the ball as a scorer. He should hopefully continue to pop off as a scorer after having a slow start to the season.

Mitchell was a key contributor to his Clayton group in two big time wins last week, posting 19/9 against Cleveland and then 19/10 in a close win against Willow Spring as well. He’s a machine who plays the 4 for the Comets, attacking closeouts and playing hard around the rim and the mid-range. Also has shown an ability to shoot it from the perimeter, knocking down 2 big threes against Willow Spring.
Highlights
Deshaun Barton
Deshaun Barton
Barton has been averaging respectable numbers across the season as a whole so far, but his 29 point outburst in a win over Terry Sanford gives him a spot on this list this week. He hit 7 threes after only making 16 all season up to that point, and turned into an unstoppable scorer despite him only being 5’7. A capable downhill attacker as well, he made the zone defense pay with his jumpers all night and showed off volleyball line range as well.
Shamari Johnson
Shamari Johnson
Johnson plays a key role for Rocky River and had a big night with Markiest Houston Markiest Houston 5’10” | CG Rocky River | 2024 State NC being contained by East Meck, putting up 20 points and 11 rebounds in a tight conference win. He’s shown he is going to be a load to handle on the glass night in and out, and on Friday proved he can be an aggressive finisher at the rim too. He went to the free throw line for 16 foul shots, causing the defense to get into foul trouble and having to work hard to defend him every possession.
Jaiden Shephard
Jaiden Shephard
Shephard had an outstanding night as Lumberton dominated Cape Fear, posting 17 points and 20 rebounds, 10 of those coming on the offensive glass alone. He’s a relentless rebounder who makes a concerted effort to attack the glass, only notching two games the entire season where he’s been under 10 rebounds in a game. He’s also a solid finisher who looks to make his living around the basket, but showed he can knock down a three on occasion like he did against Cape Fear.
