For this article, I will be taking a look into the 1A class and see which teams are sitting on top of each conference standings and which teams are potential favorites to play deep into the state tournament.
Caribou Trail Conference:
Quincy HS – RPI: 6 – Record: 13-6 (9-2) – Quincy dropped the first 2 games of the season to Wahluke and Zillah, both games they could win if they played them again. They then rattled off 6 straight wins before starting conference play. Julian Ibarra Julian Ibarra 6'4" | SG Quincy | 2024 State WA is a solid 6’4″ wing who leads the team and plays at a high level. His jumper has improved and is more consistent from both mid-range and deep.
Chelan HS – RPI: 8 – Record: 13-5 (7-3) – The Mountain Goats have played consistent all season long and are coached extremely well by Tony Callero. Senior Ryan Rainville is a well rounded offensive and defensive threat who has solid size standing at 6’4″. Chelan is young too, only having a few seniors, meaning they will be a top 1A team next year as welll.
Other Teams: Omak HS – 13-6 (7-4), Cashmere HS – 8-10 (3-7), Cascade (Leavenworth) HS – 1-15 (0-10)
Emerald Sound Conference – Chinook:
Kings HS – RPI: 14 – Record: 13-6 (8-1) – Kings is normally top team in the entire 1A class and they did not lose a step despite losing top player Cam Hiatt to transfer. Nick Linhardt Nick Linhardt 6'5" | SF King's | 2024 State WA has been stepping up and leading the team on the offensive side, being a reliable scorer for the team. Sebastian Cooper Sebastian Cooper 5'10" | PG King's | 2025 State WA is a junior who has also played at a higher level this season.
Sultan HS – RPI: 17 – Record: 13-5 (8-2) – Sultan knows how to stay in games and play well rounded as a team. They don’t have the most size but they know how to defend at a high level. Tobias Trichler has been a great senior leader for this squad.
Other Teams: Seattle Academy – 11-7 (7-2), Bear Creek HS – 13-7 (4-6), Overlake HS – 6-14 (1-9), Cedar Park Christian HS – 2-17 (1-9)
Emerald Sound Conference – Coho:
Bush HS – RPI: 26 – Record: 14-5 (11-1) – Bush has now rattled off 8 wins in a row, getting hot at just the right time. They are a well rounded team that plays well off each other and plays as a whole. They know how to win league games, which are the most important ones. It seems as if they will be going to state, but I’m unsure how far they will go.
Northwest HS – RPI: 40 – Record: 10-11 (9-3) – Northwest dropped 3 of their first 4 games but started to win some games before going on another 4 game losing streak. They have clicked since league play started, winning 9 of their 10 games from league play.
Other Teams: Granite Falls HS – 11-10 (9-3), Eastside Prep – 8-9 (5-7), University Prep – 4-12 (4-7), South Widbey HS – 4-13 (3-8), Summit Sierra HS – 1-13 (0-12)
Evergreen 1A Conference:
Tenino HS – RPI: 9 – Record: 11-4 (6-1) – Tenino is usually one of the top teams within the conference, always having talented squads. Kaiden Lindholm and Cody Strawn are some senior leaders on the team while Jack Burkhardt adds size to the team, standing at 6’6″.
Montesano HS – RPI: 11 – Record: 13-4 (4-3) – Montesano lost 3 of their 4 games right when January hit, but have locked in again and have won 5 in a row. Tyce Peterson Tyce Peterson 6'1" | SG Montesano | 2024 WA is a dynamic guard who has been able to step up and score the ball well for the team. They are experienced, mostly having a roster of seniors.
Other Teams: Elma HS – 10-5 (4-2), Hoquiam HS – 9-9 (3-4), Eatonville HS – 5-10 (0-7)
South Central Athletic Conference:
Zillah HS – RPI: 1 – Record: 17-0 (7-0) – Zillah is easily the best team in the class, being a top team in the entire state. They have had a couple close games but have easily taken care of some of the other top teams in the class/state. Dekker Van De Graaf Dekker Van De Graaf 6'5" | SG Zillah | 2026 State WA has been one of the more impressive sophomores in the state, showing he’s a big time contributor.
Wapato HS – RPI: 5 – Record: 13-5 (6-2) – Wapato has played a tough non conference schedule, but has looked very impressive throughout the season. The only team they haven’t been able to defeat is Zillah, but no one in the state has yet. They have no seniors on roster, so this team will be back again next year with a tough squad.
Other Teams: Naches Valley HS – 7-10 (2-5), La Salle HS – 6-9 (2-5), Toppenish HS – 4-13 (1-6)
